UEFA Champions League/Europa League ** Spoilers ** [9th - 11th December 2014]

Are you saying that there's no correlation between squad size and club size?

All u said was Liverpool are a bigger club and they should be beating Basel because they are hardly European giants.

Being a bigger club doesn't mean u should be beating that team when your starting 11 is inferior to the smaller club.

What makes you think that Liverpool's starting 11 is worse than Basel's? This is Basel we're talking about, not Real Madrid...

Basel were the better "team" but that's down to tactics and understanding rather than having more talented individuals.

Basel are through to the last 16 and knocked Liverpool out. Their players performed better in head to head.

If Liverpool were better they would have beat Basel when it mattered, everyone knows Liverpool didn't deserve to be in the last 16 because they played badly simple as that.

Yes but Liverpool are still a much bigger club with a more expensive squad on higher wages, and (supposedly) better quality players. I bet if you compared the cost/wages of the Liverpool squad to that of Basel's you'd find that Basel are punching above their weight.

The point is that you said that Basel had the better team because they won the match (specifically, you said that 11vs11 Basel were better). By your logic Stoke are a better team than Arsenal, because Stoke beat Arsenal 3-2 over the weekend. Your argument falls down at this point because that simply isn't true, Arsenal have far better players than Stoke and there is no real reason that Arsenal shouldn't be expected to win that game.

Ye i see your point, the fact is though home and away Basel knocked Liverpool out and deserved to go through more than Liverpool.

Liverpool struggled in pretty much all their games, even against Ludogerets they needed a last minute penalty to get the win.

I think Liverpool's performances were mediocre in the CL from what i seen. I dont think it would be fair to say Liverpool has better players because they were extremely poor.

On paper it would look like Liverpool do have a better team but their performances this season have been mediocre and nobody can deny that.

Basel have almost double the Uefa coefficient points that Liverpool have in Europe as well. They have shown they are more concistent in Europe than Liverpool are.

Eh, while the rest of what you're saying about us being crap is right, of course they have more coefficient points, we haven't been in the competition for five years, we were rank #1b last time we were, they've been in Europe more consistently and in the better competition, we haven't had the chance to be consistent as we weren't in it

Haven't u been in the EL as well, easier competition to rack up points in as well. Basel have been more consistent in Europe than Liverpool and have beaten Liverpool on head to head.

I dont see how any one could really say Liverpool are a better team than Basel. It's not like Liverpool were unlucky in the CL this season, they were very poor and deserved to go out because they weren't good enough.

We have, its not, they've been more consistent as in they've been in the better competition yes.

I never disputed the rest, not sure who you're addressing but bringing up coefficient points is meaningless and proves nothing other than they've just been in the competition at this stage

Scholes called it at HT today, Basel were doing to us what we used to do to other teams. They were running over us in midfield - they were first to every thing.

If United have the same team out on Sunday it will be interesting then because we were overrun in the midfield by Southampton. It could be a case of who will sink the lowest of the two midfields.

UTD have players coming back from injury so that problem will be addressed.
Liverpool are back it its right place in mid table, until they buy quality instead of quantity.

The Chelsea game is also on Sky 1 tonight and looking forward to seeing 18-year-old midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek make his first team debut tonight.
