Don't know why the commentary are banging on like it was harsh, he looked at the man and then swiped at his face deliberately, red card is fair. Don't want a red card? Don't swipe at people's faces, simple.
 
There was definitely some very minimal contact. Either the ref has been conned by the reaction, or he just gave the red because he saw that Markovic had a look over his shoulder and then deliberately threw an arm out in the direction of the player's face.
 
He's just put his arm out to try and find the defender, that is absolutely shocking.

I would *love* to have seen Purdy's response to that. Just wow.

Because the guy went down like he'd been shot. It's a disgusting thing to do, and is flat out cheating.

As Stewy says, he's put his arm out to know where the defender is, and skimmed his nose at worst. It's not like his fist was closed or he was swinging elbows.
 
Just rewinded for replay of foul, may seem harsh but I can see full why ref gave him a red, well Europa league bound we are then :(

I didn't see any contact at all, but then you get red cards for raising your hands at someone, based on intent. Looking behind you, then swinging your arm around, whether you hit them or not, is clearly intent. Not a clue as to why he thought it was a good idea to do that, mind.
