UEFA Champions League/Europa League ** Spoilers ** [9th - 11th December 2014]

Don't know why the commentary are banging on like it was harsh, he looked at the man and then swiped at his face deliberately, red card is fair. Don't want a red card? Don't swipe at people's faces, simple.

yeh agree.

The geeza looked like he was shot from the stand but why is he throwing his arm out :confused:

AMount of contact doesn't matter, I really don't get the lack of logic. In terms of the red card, he reached out to a player and reached really stupidly far just to catch him in the face, amount of contact doesn't matter, intent does, he threw his arm/hand out at the guy.

On the guy, it's instinctive in every situation that if you have contact made on you your immediate reaction is to back away from it. Not only that, getting a finger or even worse a finger nail in your eye can damn well hurt.

How the player reacted is irrelevant because the red card comes from his action. But when someone catches you in the face a NATURAL reaction is to back away from it and if you happen to be running that will often mean going down as you try and pull away from whatever contact it is.

Also, Townsend says it's not a red, thus, certainly a red.

It happens a lot, you'll see players stick their arms out to know where the other man is. Arguably it was a little out of control, but he clearly wasn't trying to hurt him or he'd have slowed down to hit him, and he clearly barely actually made any contact. There was no intent and no damage, so what's the issue?

This just hides the fact liverpool have been a disgrace in both domestic and european football this season, atleast Arsenal have done england proud in europe

How does it hide that fact? Not a single Liverpool fan is defending their performance in Europe or the league. They've been awful, and you're just having yet another dig at a club you can't stand.

No intent is stretching it imo, that was a deliberate swipe at his face, I don't believe for a second it was just totally innocent range finding at face level following having looked immediately beforehand.

I watch loads of rugby, I see 14 stone men running with 18 stone men hanging off them.

We need some punitive action against cheats, stoping calling it simulation would be a start.
