UEFA Euro 2012 - Group B - ** spoilers ** (Denmark, Germany, Holland, Portugal)

Doing some quick math based on head to head rules. It looks complicated if Germany beat Danes 1-0 and Netherlands beat Portugal 2-0. I think. Although I just thought about that quickly looking at the table.

Holland would qualify in that situation as they'd have the best goal difference in matches between the three teams.

If Holland were to win 1-0 that would be more interesting, that would leave all three teams locked on 3pts with, equal goal difference in matches between the three teams, and a -1 GD overall. Not sure how it would work then, results between the sides all equal on goal difference, Holland presumably knocked out for scoring less goals than the other teams, meaning Portugal go through since they beat Denmark? I don't know if it works like that though, applying results between the teams both before AND after eliminating one on basis of goals scored??

If I'm right then Portugal are actually in quite a strong position I think because if the Dutch only beat them by one goal they will have a better count of goals scored than them, and get the nod over Denmark on result between the teams (assuming the Danes only lose by one goal). In other words the Dutch need at least two goals hence should field the team I suggest..... but of course if the Danes lose by more than one goal to Germany than a 1-0 against Portugal would do! AAARGH!!!!!!

It's not actually that complicated... I think it just seems so, as pundits have confused the whole thing by calling the first tiebreaker a head-to-head (when that's not the rule).

Indeed, whilst that's how the rule effectively works for two teams, calling it a head to head completely misdescribes it really and does nothing but cause confusion. With three teams maybe they should call it a head-to-head-to-head.

As far as I understand it Denmark need a point to qualify, if they lose they will be eliminated on goal difference between the teams tied on 3pts whatever happens?

So the Dutch definitely need to win tonight by at least 2 goals and hope that Germans beat Denmark....i think thats the only way the Dutch can get through to the next round:confused:

Personally i dont think the Dutch have even played that well, i dont think they will beat Portugal...they will be lucky to get a draw. But based on their performance, i personally think either Portugal or Denmark deserve to go through rather than the Dutch.

Lukas Podolski reaches 100 caps tonight, age 27. Pretty impressive, he's the youngest European player to reach this milestone.

I can't make up my mind which one to watch, I do like watching Germany, but I don't like Portugal and would be happy to see Holland win the game and progess...

Picking tonight's game entirely on who's commentating again, gutted the build up is the same both games, Roy Kean is a terrible terrible pundit :(

Thought a joke about Roy Kean being sent home from the world cup makes me laugh! :D

Will be watching the Holland Portugal game. A lot of talent on show..

Also I can see a Dutch meltdown if things go badly aka France ay the world cup. Hugely entertaining!
