UEFA Euro 2012 - Group C - ** spoilers ** (Croatia, Italy, Rep Ireland, Spain)

Italy still didn't look too threatening. Spain seemed a little timid too, but they had no reason to go all out with being through already.

Both will be difficult for England, but I'm leaning towards the pasta than the paella.

This is of course we don't fluff up against Ukraine!

Spain could have gone home last night (given how close Croatia got to scoring before Spain did)

Commentary certainly seemed to imply that at any rate.

Croatia were a bit stupid to stop playing while appealing for the offside, but it was also pretty harsh given how they were playing upto that point

Yeah I'll have to eat my words on that one. When I posted it I thought Spains game was just a procession, I didn't realise they could have gone out.

If Croatia had equalised, Spain would be out now.

At least Spain went for the win even though they did not need it. If they defended like the Croatians did with 11 players behind the line the goalkeepers would not have touched the ball once.

Because results also went their way they didn't ultimately need the win but if Ireland had equalised against Italy then Spain would have been out I think, equally if Croatia had equalised then Spain were out.

Croatia did a fantastic job defensively but to suggest that is all they did would be to do them a disservice - they arguably had more/better opportunities to score than Spain did. They didn't have as much possession but they played to their strengths and were quite unlucky not to score or get a penalty either.

Good to se the Republic of Ireland get smashed, time and time again. They’re our nearest rivals and they played very poor, also time to take some of their fans home, which is great as they were recorded singing pro IRA terror songs on the Polish streets, which is pathetic. The media in Northern Ireland seems to have turned a blind eye to these events, but it’s out there for the world to see.

Link to these supposed vids? Only one i spotted on youtube was a group of about 4 people singing Fields of Athenry, and thats not what you would call a "pro IRA" song.

And yeah Ireland didn't play the best as they get put into a hard group, but at least we were there. :) You'd have to break out the history books laden with an inch of dust from about 20 years ago (and thats being generous) to see when the last time NI qualified for the Euros or World cup :) NI arent really rivals, more like Irelands whipping boys overall, last time they met it was a 5-0 pumping if i remember rightly.

Haven't you heard, all Irish folk songs are pro-IRA in the north :p

Shame about the Republic this summer, had hopes of a sneaky upset after enjoying some of the quali games but it was a very hard group to get something out of.

Seems that way, ive had a look through some vids on youtube and so far its mainly Fields of Athenry being sung, ive not heard any referencing the IRA or what id consider a "pro IRA song". That being said im not spending my day trawling through youtube on the off chance i find one, if he has a link to one he can post it.

Aye they were outclassed in that group to say the least, in another group they may have done better. But a Northern Ireland fan talking about poor performances is pretty amusing, id love to have seen the score line with NI vs Spain, would have hit double digits in Spains favour :)

I think some sort of ego thing that all the good/promising players declare for the Republic after a while and in some why banging on about the IRA makes them feel better about it (in other words I'm pretty sure the IRA songs are confined entirely to the north in the first place)

Yeah it was the true group of death, even Croatia had a lot to offer, can't overall fault effort or ambition though :)

Lol this Spain would have been funny, but 2006 Spain lost 3-2 in the last Euro's qualifier to NI (admittedly at Windsor Park). Doubt this NI team could ever recreate that without Spain "nursing some injuries" and not playing the a-team.

They'd have to cart out the wheelchair bound team for NI to get that kind of result again :p
