Knew this would happen, even when he's committed a foul now, it's being described as a good foul. He's a legend already.
Oh come on. He's had a good start to his Spurs career and he's barely played for England. He's had a good night, played a part in both goals about as much as he could, had a decent match and you still slate him at any given opportunity? He's only 19 and raw and it's not like he's been labelled the next Maradona - cut him a bit of slack - it's not like we've got any talent in centre midfield anyway. And I'm a Liverpool fan, barely an England one and not-at-all a Tottenham one.
Anyway, on to more important matters - I was pretty demoralised tonight. The stadium was barely 3/4 full for the anthems and I was dismayed at the half-hearted lack of applause when the players emerged from the tunnel. The minute's silence was impeccably observed of course, but where were the voices for the rest of the night? I expected songs, from La Marseillaise through to spontaneous eruptions during the match. I remember back to the 80s after the Hillborough disaster when the San Siro burst into singing You'll Never Walk Alone days after the disaster. Why can't we bring ourselves to show that level of emotion? Is a few red, white and blue lights deemed sufficient? For
****'
* sake we've spent the last few days talking about how continuing to fulfil this fixture showed solidarity, yet when it came to it it was just any other half-hearted friendly but with some A4 coloured paper on the seats of an end of the stadium. Wow, we really committed ourselves to the cause there.
At least they actually noticed when Diarra was coming on and a majority eventually followed one another in applauding.
Either don't hold the match and let the players be with their family and friends when they most need to be (not letting the terrorists win? They murdered 129 people - they didn't
******* lose) or pull your fingers out of your arse and do it properly. It was stereotypical toffee-nosed plucky Brits and their stiff upper lip.
