Honestly I've been saying England are winning this from day one, but that type of football is just dreadful. Even when we had the ball in the final third, people in the room I was in kept shouting out joking "pickfords on" to have the ball worked back on que. There's absolutely zero decent link up play between the midfield and forwards. They have to come deep and create everything for themselves. I could stomach one CDM with a creative CM but the pair of them are woeful.

To be honest I think it mostly comes down to 1-2 players who've got a bit more game time than normally would having a disruptive presence which has shifted the balance of the whole squad. Stuff like COVID has kind of forced Southgate's hand to a happy result.

Saka might not always pull off what he is trying to do, partly due to not enough experience, but he had a disruptive presence on the normal flow of things which went far more in England's favour than not and went a long way IMO to denying Germany their game plan.
