UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL ... Ajax v Manchester United ... **Spoilers** [24th May 2017]

It's a good stat but the same as when he was Everton how many times in those 15 did he retain or enable them to retain possession. At Everton unless it was in the area you were better off letting him win the aerial battle and mark up for the poor distribution/flick on. Same with Duncan Ferguson, people got smart to defending the second ball rather than take an elbow in the face.

Man Utd performances have been mentioned in the FA Cup thread, so posting here as it's more suitable:

I think perceptions have been affected slightly by our injuries and performances in the latter part of the season.

Around the middle of the season, there were plenty of decent games where the team looked confident and played well, yet for the most part they struggled more often than not. Rojo was our second best centre back and Zlatan was a key striker and member of the team and those injuries had a bad effect.

I don't think we're that far off the likes of Chelsea at all, but it will come down to how new signings adjust. We have a solid base to build from and finished the season very well indeed, all things considered.

The more I think about it, it was a fantastic end to the season, it's better than finishing second, third or fourth, yet infinitely more risky. The Europa League is obviously inferior to the Champions League by a significant margin, but as far as general trophies go it's a very good one, and comes with other great benefits too.

People also forget we'd have lost a lot of money from the Adidas kit deal if we missed out on the Champions League (something like £21m), so that's yet another bonus.

I think next season will be very exciting, the top 6 will strengthen and will all be demanding the Premier League, it could be very close.

Rojo was only Utd's best performing centre back because he didn't get a couple of red cards he probably should have, he is always prone to these kinds of tackles which for me is why he should only be 2nd or third choice.

I'm not sure of the benefit of comparing with Zlatan's performances given the injury situation and how pessimistic the club are at seeing him in a utd shirt again, our movement up front improved though without him even though results didn't show it often enough.

We would have lost 20m or so over the length of the Adidas deal....what, 2-3m a season...not really sure that would make much difference. Not being in the Cl is much more damaging financially ( rough guess CL group stage is roughly the same as winning the Europe about £35-40m, winning CL is worth ~£100m). Obviously prestige or loss of it also.

If Utd do only get 3-4 players as has been rumoured, and we get similar amounts of injuries, I can't see a positive outcome

Could have sworn several newspapers were saying it was £20 odd million over the remiander of the contract - but hey ho, makes more sense if its ~£22m / seasom (but at least now we are covered to the end of year 5 at the very least, with next year being 3rd year of the deal - I think 14/15 was last Nike year anyway)

I would still say that 20m out of all the sponsorship money generated isnt exactly very much - or rather there are much bigger things to worry about than this slight drop in revenue (like attracting the right players, the actual CL revenue itself, even the CL experience for the current players etc etc etc).
