UEFA Nations League Group Stage Matchday 1 & 2 [5th - 10th September 2024]

Granted been some poor opposition this week but England look a completely different side to the one that limped out of the Euros final. Carsley is easily exposing Southgates limited approach in that he couldn't find a place for TAA in his side and apart from a 3 minute cameo never thought Anthony Gordon could come on, pull a fullback out of position and stretch a defence?

Will be interesting to see how Carsleys tactics and the selection stack up when the going gets tougher but I do agree they have looked much better. TAA is a difficult one as he was competing for the right back spot with Walker who is one of the best right backs the country has ever produced and while he might not have the range of passing or the attacking instinct he could be relied upon to do his job defensively even against the best.

England are amongst the best teams in the world, they will have the lions share of possession in the majority of games, you want a player than can unlock defences and that's Trent.

Every right back will have moments where their man gets the best of them, after all Kyle 'best rb in the league' Walker was at fault for both French goals in the recent final. Let's also ignore that Trent's been playing against the very best wingers in the game for years in the Champs league.

Yep, although the absence of Bellingham and Foden has helped him in his team selection a bit as in the pressure to accommodate from the press and the fans them isn't there.

I'm with Clark on the RB situation though, in vast majority of games England should let the opposition worry about us overlapping on the flanks, not the other way round.

It really isnt a difficult one. Walker was woeful and was playing in a back 3, not at rb.

Positives to be had but let's not carried away against bang average opposition. It's just a shame carsley but be tested against some top teams

I've been the biggest fan of walker but the next tournament may be a step too far
