UEFA Nations League Group Stage Matchday 4 [12th - 14th June 2022]

I am all for trying out the talent but even some of these regulars like Phillips are not good enough to start imo. No desire or energy from what I seen tonight, what a joke.

Lucky you!
It's not luck, it's good judgement. International football has been horrendous for a good 15-20 years and it's only going to get worse as a result of cramming in this stupid Nation's League into an already full schedule.

There will be PL teams starting pre-season in a little over 2 weeks from now and face another heavily congested calendar as a result of the winter WC. It's genuine madness.

Also all the England players are VERY overrated. They look great with talented foreign players carrying them every game but on their own they get found out to be average players they are. It's that simple.

England squad under GS is unquestionably one of the most overrated in living memory. Prior to 2018 I said it was the worst England squad I'd seen since Euro'92 and some took umbrage at that but honestly it's really not that good. I'm not Southgate's biggest fan but honestly him getting found out versus decent teams should be expected rather than a surprise.

Golden generation wipes the floor with this mob, 96/98 era considerably better too. Harry Kane is good but let's not kid ourselves he is any better than Rooney or Shearer, you look beyond him and its a sea of overhyped 'talent' that's not achieved anything and mediocrity.

I can proudly say I've not watched a single minute of these Internationals.

Same.

It’s only worth watching at the major tournaments, and even that’s hard work!

I don’t like Southgate either. Very average manager, another Solskjaer.

Saw on twitter that the England team was announced prior to kick off, then promptly forgot about it. Just don't care about the national team nor this 'tournement'.

Until the team is built around the one world class English talent then they will continue to be ****. That won't happen though as football is far to tribal.

This is nonsense. We have tons of quality and experience but a terrible manager, much like forever. Plus the players are knackered.

England have a very good set of players for the most part but as we have always done, we struggle with balance in the team and we are missing a top quality CM to dictate the game. We have no national footballing identity or style so the team is a mis-mash of players who all play in a slightly (or very) different style to the rest of the team.

Spain play like Spain have always done, Germany the same. England don't have that identity.

Oh and like I have been saying for years, GS is a **** manager and doesn't do the players any favours. I said it repeatedly during our Euros run and unsurprisingly we are getting found out a little now. Lets be honest though. These are pointless games (England took that a little too literally maybe) and the players have come off a long hard season and Southgate is throwing **** at the wall to see what sticks.

Still, the WC is going to be a chastening experience for some I think.

No goals in open play now for 315 minutes.

A truly gutless performance not one single player stood out and tried to rescue the game, where’s the leadership? Those players should have watched the England vs New Zealand Test cricket highlights to see what real leadership and courage is. Our captain Ben Stokes on ONE KNEE stood at the crease smashing the ball to all parts to help carry England in a record-breaking victory.

I've slept on it and it was a laughable performance from England. Yeah we were missing some players that would start, but it looks like we're going to have a hula hoop in goal regardless of who it is (I wish Pope would have got more of a chance). Phillips has no passing nouse.

We looked like we want to bore opposition to death with death by 1000 sideays passes.

I've never liked Southgate's style, but he's got us to a semi and a final however you want to look at the path to those (which lets face it, wasn't dominant).

The Hungarian strikers' holdup player was exceptional to be fair. They gave them a focal point to aim for rather than Kane who comes incredibly deep and then tries to hit on our our midgets up front. Hungary did a job on England yesterday and that's down to their players playing well and being well trained.

Southgate getting his just deserts for picking players on reputation over form.

Huh, he has picked quite a few players based on form. Almost all of them I would say honestly. Who has been repeatedly played who is in bad form? Rashford and Sancho haven't played.

His issue is we are a bit of a mess of a team at the best of times and mixing up the players even more doesn't help that. Southgate only knows how to play dour defensive football. Hes tried to do something a bit different and made a mess of it.

Yeah I would agree with that, all players come from different playstyles and trying to mash them together and play southgates way doesn't seem to work.

Supposed to have so much attacking talent in the England squad.....can't score a goal.

The fact we got battered by Hungry, suggests otherwise.

Seemed to work previously, getting to our first major final.

What's changed?
