A defender who cant run - halfway up the pitch and loses the ball - following which the other team stick it in the net........a great strike yes but they shouldnt have had the ball and he should have stayed in position and left it to the players who can actually manage to get above a gentle trot.
Cant believe even Southgate will play him in the WC now..........
These two games have been wasted where he could have been giving Ramsdale, Tomori and Abraham/Toney a try out.

"I never pick on reputation - form has to come into it. You have to look at the opposition and the type of game you're expecting and select the players best suited to that."
Gareth Southgate defends selection of players not playing for their clubs following Englands 3-3 draw with Germany: What are we meant to do, not pick Luke Shaw because hes not playing much for his club?

To be fair Luke Shaw is a good player but he has been frozen out through no fault of his own due to Malacia being such a good buy. Hopefully it will spur him on to fight for his place. He is easily our best left back at national level.
Maguire on the other hand........
The bitter sweet will be that he will more than likely cost Southgate his job. I can see him doing something on the level of Beckham 98.

It was his own fault. Hes simply not got the consistency or desire to operate at a top team that is wanting to compete at the top level. At his peak he is very good but he has holes in his game, doesn't work as hard as he could and seems to struggle to stay in good shape.
If he was delivering in anything like the capacity he is capable of then Malacia wouldn't get much of a look in.

Oh I completely agree. What I was trying to say is that on his day Shaw can be fantastic where as Maguire even on his day is still a massive liability.
The difference is England are not exactly flush with left backs that are fit or good so the inclusion of Shaw is not really surprising and not as bad as it could be but the fact Tomori can't even get a look in whilst Maguire goes from blunder to blunder is just crazy.
