Uk Drinking Age?

Thinking about it, that makes very little sense..... I'm certain that 5 is the lowest you can legally give a child alcohol.
What he said is, 5 is the minimum age, unless a child is prescribed alcohol by a doctor (lol, drunken babies?), in which case, there is no minimum age.

Uni would suffer the most if this law was passed I reckon! ;)

Personally I've only just turned 18 and I'd hate to have to wait another 3 years! That said, in my opinion it would probably be a benefit, though I think thugs will be thugs whatever the situation.

I think this is very common in Ireland.

Correct :)

Many medicines use alcohol in the formulation. It is perfectly legal to spoon these down a sub-5 year old's throat as long as the have been prescribed by your doctor.

Like the drinking limit actually stops anyone, almost everyone i know who isn't old enough does it anyway, its almost an incentive to drink when your breaking the law.
dont drink

Well it would, because it would mean that the the lisence laws would change and nobody under 21 would be allowed into a pub/bar/club.

I've worked in a busy bar and most of the fights were 18/19 year olds who get seriously drunk on the cheap drink nights. That's not to say you don't get fights involving older people, but those types tend to be the types that have spent their whole life getting into fights.

It obviously wouldn't make it impossible to get hold of alchol, but it would cut down the numbers of people spilling out onto the streets who cause problems.

But who says that the same thing won't happen with 21-22 year olds if the law was changed? It could more to do with the fact that they are now legally able to drink rather than the actual age they are.
