Where are your favourite places to go for a holiday in the UK?

Edinburgh is a favourite of mine.

...normally the airport before I go somewhere nicer.

I'm messing about of course, some amazing places in the UK, just what you get for your money here is depressing and prefer to go further for less.

Haha funny I was going to say any UK airport carpark
The holiday starts at that point

Actually planning an autumn break in Scotland as opposed to a bit of early winter sun this year.

I need to find a new cattery first though...

Northumberland, Yorkshire, Cumbria & the lakes, Dumfries & Galloway... Loads of nice places.

I started a thread back in Jan/Feb time complaining about hotel rates. Not just 1.5x the normal rates to cover national living wage, higher energy rates, inflation and current financial crisis, but I was taking 3x to 4x of the original rates!

Anyway, it's a heads up that I have stopped in a couple of hotels recently (a Premier Inn and a Britannia), and I have booked more hotels for later on this year and it the rates are starting to level off now. Not as cheap as pre-2023 but around the 1.5x mark. I can live with paying 1.5x because that is realistic, but not 3x-4x!

Anyway, I like going on city breaks for clubbing, markets and big fairgrounds / festive events e.g. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. Nottingham, Hull, Coventry, Birimingham, Leicester, Lichfield. London's too expensive to stay overnight, so I make that a day trip as it's do-able by train from Stafford in 1h 20m.

Lake District, don't go to that Welsh town that were not allowed to name anymore. ;)
Which one? Rhyl? Lived there for a few years until 2017, lived in a nice area & quite liked it. My mum still has a caravan in Prestatyn. She could get £600 per week hiring it out but doesn't bother, £600 could get you to a lot of places (or used to be able to).

Anywhere really, do a lot of walking in the UK and once you get out of the towns it really is lovely. Same abroad tbh, can't stand the cities.

Me and my wife go away once a month going on train, coach tours or abroad on plane.
