I started a thread back in Jan/Feb time complaining about hotel rates. Not just 1.5x the normal rates to cover national living wage, higher energy rates, inflation and current financial crisis, but I was taking 3x to 4x of the original rates!
Anyway, it's a heads up that I have stopped in a couple of hotels recently (a Premier Inn and a Britannia), and I have booked more hotels for later on this year and it the rates are starting to level off now. Not as cheap as pre-2023 but around the 1.5x mark. I can live with paying 1.5x because that is realistic, but not 3x-4x!
Anyway, I like going on city breaks for clubbing, markets and big fairgrounds / festive events e.g. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. Nottingham, Hull, Coventry, Birimingham, Leicester, Lichfield. London's too expensive to stay overnight, so I make that a day trip as it's do-able by train from Stafford in 1h 20m.
