UK Kinect price

Ah, as you posted:

I thought you had a found a good deal somewhere. Searched everywhere to no avail!!!

rp2000

No, it was my mistake. I'd seen the blurb about the kinect bundle for $299 and equated that to £199 in my head as the 360s was $299 and was £199 in the UK.

But can't the PS Eye do 3D by tracking the two wands?

I was thinking more specifically of the projection technology as featured in Ubisoft's Your Shape. Can't the Eye also do this as it's simply scanning you in as a silhouette?

The Eye cheats a little.

It uses the size of the ball at the end of the wand to work out distance. It doesn't actually track anything else in 3D.

Kinect knows where you're whole skeleton is in 3 dimensions and whether certain bits are over lapping etc. For the eye to do that you'd need tracking balls on every joint/limb and they'd all always need to be visible.

All the limbs need to be present on screen though, hence why you can't sit down.

You can sit down though.

Rare have said it works fine sitting down as have Turn 10.

It has to be designed to work sat down though. So Forza and the dashboard work but dance central or Your Fitness don't. But that's common sense, or so I thought.

Thing is if its works so well sitting down why dont any of the games shown allow you to use it that way? The sports game and adventure im pretty sure are Rare games, and in all the forza kinect demo you have to stand up, so if it works sitting down why cant you? I can sort of understand why some of the sport games are design that way but all of them hmm, and who drives standing up? if turn 10, well che, said it works fine standing why would the demo of the driving game only seem to work standing up? From what ive read from non MS sources the bowling isnt great as it lets the ball release when it wants to and because of its limited accuracy in movements it doesnt do spin very well.
A few question to abooie as he seems to know it all about kinect
Where is the augmented reality that we have already seen working with Move? Is it because the actual camera and mic array, isnt on a par with the PS3 eye in either video or audio capability? Is finger tracking still in? Not scene anything that shows me it is yet, is it because it was going to track 48 joints and now it only tracks 20?
Is object scanning still part of the kinect software, that looked quite good at E3 09, but not seen or heard anything since, hopefully at GC in a months time we may get some answers and maybe some games that will interest me.
Dance central looks the most fun, but it sounds like harmonix is looking to port it to the PS3 at a later date, so im waiting for something to make me go wow thats cool with kinect like some of the Move tech demoes and games have. I still think its going to be a year before we start to see the interesting stuff for kinect, hopefully the price will be lower by then.

if it doesn't work sitting down then i'd have thought it wouldn't work for kids or short people as sitting down you still will show your legs, just the knees and higher missing but still longer then a child legs.

Only what I've read.
First question? No idea and sounds like you've made your own mind up anyway.
Finger tracking? No idea again, though again you're answering it yourself.
Object scanning; nothing's been shown yet other than the kinectimals barcode stuff and the milo tech demo. There's a lot in the pipeline so maybe we'll see some stuff next year.

I'm not sure why you're concentrating your attacks on kinect at me. I'm positive for it only because my wife can't wait for Your Fitness Evolved and my girls want Kinectimals and Dance Central.
I think Joy Ride looks like a mess and I've no interest in driving standing up whilst holding an imaginary steering wheel. But there's no denying in my mind that Kinect offers some unique gaming (using the term loosely) experiences and could be a lot of fun in the right cirumstances.

Not attacking you, just you seem to be the most informed about kinect, not saying you shouldnt be positive about something you are looking forward to at all. I was just asking a few questions and wondered if you knew more about it. For example the joint tracking being halved now, do they NEED to track all the same points? Or can they pick which ones to track for example if a game doesnt require you to move certain joints can it then track joints it previously wasnt? My mind about kinect is made up that i will purchase it when the price drops and when something comes out that interest me.
Sure kinect could be used for some unique gaming but i have yet to see anything that truly outstands or isnt something done on other systems, the milo thing could be good but its PM so i will wait till its out before buying into the hype.
Same could be said with move, but thats only going to cost me £35 and there are already games im intersted in using it with, all of which are games i would have bought anyway.

I'm wondering - are all these Kinect dissers more interested in Move? Or no motion gizmos at all? :D

Not really bothered about either, but tbf Move just seems to have better software support.

At the end of the day the developers will decide whether either succeeds or fails.
