UK plans age verification for porn websites from 2018

Those websites would be blocked in the U.K, just like PirateBay is.

You sure? PirateBay opens just fine in my regular browser (Chrome) with no VPN.

Wont it only force kids to search harder for porn and possibly find way worse / more hardcore stuff that on ‘standard’ porn sites?

14 year old me would certainly see it as a challenge. Sure the average 14 year old could find porn without age verification (if implemented in future) within about 10 mins

14 year old me would just install a free VPN...

If the government's advice on this is so bad, no wonder they keep messing everything up.

Dont have to imagine, i am young enough to be among the first generation which has access to the internet at that age. Trust me, you know full well how unrealistic a woman in a pornos are. The tales of porn ruining the lives of people really just sound like fairy tales or shifting of blame to an easy target. I am not saying, let kids watch porn but treating it as a gateway drug to a life of emotional anguish and a numb knob is silly.

Next you will be telling me that video games cause violence

Do you also have unrealistic expectations about how fast a plumber will turn up to your house when you call them? :D

Maybe I'm bias and it is a gross generalisation but I tend to find people in that age range have a far more balanced and broader world view compared to those in the age groups above and below them - it shocks me sometimes just how narrow and closed minded the perspectives and opinions are I encounter more commonly in those outside that kind of age range.

It seems to me with the advent of the Internet we took a step towards enlightenment and almost as quickly re-embraced the darkness.

We've been here with age checks before and it collapsed in the early 2000's when a site setup to check people accessing adult websites were over 18 ended up also allowing access to illegal material and led to the largest illegal porn investigation UK police had dealt with, Operation Ore.

The track record of MindGeek, who as already had illegal material on its own run websites, doesn't inspire confidence.
