UK Store down?

I think it will go down just fine, iPods are now general consumer devices. Apple do not have to please the tech crowd anymore and the general public won't care where the controls are.

You'd have to be either a fool or such an apple lover that you'd spend anything to have their latest product to buy this. You can't replace the headphones so have to put up with the pretty rubbish stock ones, it'll take ages to navigate to a particular song and the voice over is awful. If you want small just buy a creative zen stone, at least then you get a small screen, easier navigation and a lower price.

For the same price you could buy a 4GB sony network walkman with video, fm radio, a decent res screen, decent stock headphones, drag and drop (or itunes) and slim enough to slide into your pocket almost unnoticeably.

WHO BUYS THIS RUBBISH?

/Apple rant over

Edit - not quite over....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noe3kR8KqJc :D

What's with the can't replace the headphones comments? There are plenty of good third party headphones with controls on the cord now, or remotes into which you can plug third party headphones. They work with the iphone and ipod touch so I imagine they'll work fine with this.

If that's true I don't see a major problem with it, an interesting choice of update all the same but not horribly awful...

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE BRING BACK STEVE JOBS...

BOOM - the shop keeper appears.

Uncle Ben looked at the prices and through **** that! Unconvinced he turned and retraced his steps back to the main high street of Recessionsville.

Not wishful thinking.. just optimistic on a time of severe pessimism about the economy..

It's actually a bit of a masterstroke by Apple, even if it isn't in the consumers interest (Consumers interest? > See LordSplodges laughing above!). What is the part of most people's MP3 players you see walking about, on the bus, on the train, etc? The headphones. And Apples headphones are VERY distinctive. By forcing the user to keep those headphones they increase the visual userbase walking around.

I think Apple have enough of the market appealing to them.

A lot of people say "He has one of them iPods", when it could be any brand of MP3 player. A lot of the older age market call every MP3 player an iPod. Apple have got the market, they don't need anymore.

Imo i don't think its much of a market strategy as such. The normal "hardcore" music listeners will buy the Nano or the Classic. The shuffle is just for those with a small budget who want a couple of songs on the go, people are very unlikely to 'upgrade' their earphones.

They've completely wu-tanged the mp3 player market, true.. So they're not going to just give it up are they? Once you have market share you try your best keep hold of it (Untill complacency sets in). I wouldn't be surprised if this is one method they think they can do that.

Why? What has this got to do with the Shuffle refresh?

Nothing directly but since his Jobsiness' absence Apple seem to be going off on a tangent.

She has those Steve Jobs hand gestures down to a T.

I've got some hand movements she can practice on me...

She's a bit strange looking don't you think?

Beauty, my friend is in the Eye of the Beholder. You may find her funny looking but I'd do the horizontal shuffle with her to she limped.

I quite like the new Shuffle. I remember when the 1st Gen Shuffle came out and people were wondering who'd buy a music player like that (no screen etc.) and as it turned out a hell of a lot of people.

The Shuffle is marketed to active people as a way to unobtrusively listen to music during a run/work out/cycle and IMO this is a great device to do that. You want more? Get a Nano.

The headphone decision is quite interesting though - it would be a good idea to bring out an adapter-style controller (that has a 3.5mm jack on it) to please people who use other headphones. And Apple could charge quite a bit for it...

Do you have a hoover rather than a vacuum cleaner?...

It's a Dyson in the 21st Century ;)

 Them low standards there

Well I think she's pretty. SO there. :p

Jobs hasn't been gone for any great length of time. Do you really think they got the idea, designed and made this Shuffle in the last 3 months?

No but he hasn't been well for a while now and rumour has it that he approves all released products. Apple make a lot of stuff in there R&D centre that never sees the light of day.

You can pretty much guarantee that people on the internet who point out normal girls to be ugly or of low standards are -
a: single
b: making a comparison with either some porn star or a Japanese pop star
c: either virgin or sexually inactive and possibly closeted homosexual
