I’m struggling to see how one news article equates to “largely”.

There is/are more I just linked that one.
A chinese guy I used to work with said it was some kind of "myth" as well. Not that it didn't happen but that mainly they ended up as just undocumented if girls.

Every time a boy is born instead of a girl, you get one less human with the possibility of giving birth to anything.

RATIO. RATIO. RATIO. RATIO.

L2read ffs

Because it’s a stain on his country.

Not really no. I mean its a generally accepted practice to differing degrees across the whole of Asia.
I remember talking to Singaporeans who said your sperm was weak if you produced a female baby. They were deadly serious.

I mean sure its not a great thing but he didn't seem to be embarrassed about it, was very matter of fact. Just that there were many undocumented babies in China and the killing of all the females because they were female was mainly untrue.
IIRC the conversation came about because he had one child, a daughter and someone mentioned something similar to what was mentioned above about wasn't that rare to see it to birth (same person was also out of date and thought the one child policy was still in force).

He basically said that in many places the well off would just pay the fine to have as many children as they wanted and the poor would just hide the births after the first, and then later second. (now third I assume, although he also said the 4-2-1 family is very much a thing and is following the Western trend with many not wanting any children)

The amount of times I've seen people wish they could put our armed forces in danger isn't surprising at all to me, I'm sure you'll be sat at home cheering them on at least
That is the risk of voluntarily joining an organisation whose purpose is to be first line of defence and enact force upon other countries when the government wishes.

Thats all very well but there are as many if not more Russians waiting for them.
I suppose it makes sense that a country almost permanently under sanctions would have developed ways of acquiring or making parts needed out of necessity.
they get all the parts they need on the grey or black market.

There are plenty friendly countries that supply the parts needed at a price.

There are hundreds of countries that have access to these parts who obviously aren't sanctioned, and have means to supply these parts on the black market.

Our forces wouldn't be on the ground though they wouldn't need to be

NATO would do what Russia should have done and overwhelm them from the air leaving Ukrainian troops to mop up.

A couple of hundred fighter jets would make it a quick victory.

Yea I mean why change a winning Russian strategy!!!

All aircraft parts are tagged and tracked.

The fun bit is the black market/grey market where the parts have their numbers changed so expired parts are "refurbs" or you end up with a fake part that looks like the real thing and might even work, for a while.

IIRC even the open market has had to be careful about the number of dodgy parts that have been found in it, despite the open ability to track their history*, so I can only imagine how bad the parts bought to avoid sanctions will be.

I seem to remember that one of the ways that Iran kept their fleet going was a lot of salvage and cannibalising parts**, and that was at a time when the technology was far simplier than is the case for almost any modern aircraft.
From memory they started to get sanctioned back when the 747 was still in it's original version with the large flight crew and minimal automation.

*I seem to remember at least one incident that was found to be due to a company buying a part without checking the history properly that would have shown it was currently in use elsewhere.

**Fairly common with airframes that are deemed too expensive to fix, where you can strip bits off and test/put them back into service, but there are limits and you tend not to do it for parts that are near the end of their service life.

Say what you want about how right wing the current Italian government is but it's support for Ukraine so far put some other European (France, Germany) countries to shame. I'm sure these will be put to good use very shortly:

Yeah I was concerned and thought the new Italian government might be another Putin sympathiser like Hungary but they have shown they are anything but that.

A major disinformation and Russian propaganda channel called "Donbass Devushka", which published a fake version of "secret Pentagon documents," is hosted by a former U.S. Navy officer who was recently discharged from military service.

The "Mila Girl from Luhansk," who hosts podcasts with pro-Kremlin propagandists, turned out to be Sarah Bils, a divorced American from New Jersey. She was exposed by members of the "North Atlantic Fella Organization" (#NAFO), an online community. On Twitter, "Donbass Devushka" posted filtered photos of herself and wrote that her name was Mila. NAFO collated the photos and other information from one of the podcast videos and found out that her real name is Sarah Bils, but she had recently officially changed it to another, more Russian name. Bils is a former U.S. Navy officer, recently discharged from the Navy. Bils claims she was kicked out of the military because of her "pro Russian views." Former associates have expressed concern about her mental health and have called her a habitual liar. Beals' mother claimed that her daughter often made up stories. On social media, "Donbass Devushka" claimed she was traveling between the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and the Ukrainian city of Luhansk in 2014, but in reality, Bils was suing her ex-husband in Oak Harbor at the time.

When Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Bils created several Twitter accounts and added Telegram in April. Her Telegram channel publishes more "banned" Twitter content, including memes, fake images, and ultra-violence: such as cheering the killing of a U.S. volunteer who went to Ukraine, videos of dead Ukrainians, and supporting videos of a Ukrainian POW being beheaded by Russian mercenaries from the "Wagner" PMC.

In January 2023 Jack Teixeira of the Massachusetts National Guard shared hundreds of classified documents on his Discord server. The Bellingcat investigation revealed the distribution of documents from Teixeira's Discord to 4Chan, Telegram and Twitter. Two versions of the key documents were distributed: one showed that Russian losses far exceeded Ukrainian ones, and the other badly edited version showed the opposite. Belligcat claims that the falsified versions were created by the Telegram channel "Donbass Devushka".

Fox News host Tucker Carlson used the faked version circulated on "Donbass Devushka's" Telegram channel to claim that Ukraine had a 7-to-1 troop loss ratio and is "losing the war". The faked versions were spread by pro-Kremlin propagandists, and "Donbass Devushka" began supporting the well-known Z-channel. In November 2022, The Bell journalists found out that this channel received money from Yevgeny Prigozhin (head pf the PMC "Wagner") and could be linked to the FSB.

Now let's see if Carlson issues a retraction. I won't hold my breath.
