With Snake island "liberated", the wheat supply is only waiting for Ukraine to clear mines in Odessa port.
Of course they have no capability or will to do that, so waiting to see what other excuse they think of.

I wonder if their troops refused to be stationed there. It was a small area and a constant target. Nowhere to hide.

Quite possibly. Also resupplying was going to be harder given recent losses and sticking expensive air defence equipment on there only to be blown up by long-range missiles Ukraine has recently taken delivery of could get rather expensive and unsustainable too.

What are you talking about - care to explain?

If major food supplies are effected globally by Russia holding all Black sea ports how on earth do you get the Wheat out safely ?

Who enforces the no-fly zone? Presumably it would have to be absolute top of the line NATO jets like the F-22 and F-35 flown by NATO pilots so they could even operate "safely" in Ukraine, then if a Russian jet entered Ukraine we'd shoot it down. What do you think would happen then? I'll tell you, Russia would fire cruise missiles at the airbases that those planes are operating out of, this would then trigger article 5 of the NATO treaty meaning the alliance would consider itself under attack by Russia, NATO would then declare war on Russia.

I'm not being funny, but did you not consider the chain of events that might occur when you decide to shoot down a Russian jet? It could lead to a nuclear war which would be the worst thing that has ever happened on Earth since an asteroid wiped out the Dinosaurs.

One solution is to buy more wheat from Russia. The alternative is probably to watch Russia selling it to countries which then become tacit supporters.

Another is negotiating a settlement between Ukraine and Russia that allows mine clearance and use of black sea ports. That one needs time and diplomacy.

I suppose a no-fly zone and thetefore full scale Russia/NATO war is another option, but not one I'd choose.

As I said and you eluded to it here were going to have to play nuclear poker with Putin one way or another . I just can’t see NATO not getting involved.

That's good news, hopefully they can now de-mine Odesa and with the aid of a UN/NATO naval escort start exporting grain to those who need it.

That's going to need Turkey to allow warships through - which at the start of this they said they would not do and I've not seen anything since February to indicate a change in that stance.

No commercial grain shippers will operate there: the risks of being sunk by what Russia still has left in the Black Sea are too great, not to mention long range missiles fired from Russia whilst they're in the ports loading up.

A gesture of good will. In other words they have finally tired of getting blown up there. One step closer to eliminating them from the Black Sea.
