Ultimate Detailing Machine

Of course i understand why others might, they obviously think that the extra consideration and care required to keep their posessions in this condition is worth their while. I dont and probably never will. Looks better and i wouldnt say no, but in all likelyhood i wouldnt notice either way.

So if you prang your car, you won't go get it repaired?

It would depend what the car was, what the cost was going to be, and whether it was due to be sold soon. There is a difference between paint imperfections and crash damage though.

Which begs the question why drive a modified S Class if you dont give a stuff about looks. Surely a non modified one would be cheaper to insure if looking good isnt something you care about.

More money that sense if you have the 'if it gets marked, throw it away' attitude.

I thought the difference between pride and memories was obvious. You like old photos and toys as a child, not cause they look nice but cause of the memories.

Very different to why you have a shave and style you hair and even wash your car :p

Not being picky and worrying about keeping things in as new condition doesnt mean i dont like nice things. :)

Thats not the attitude at all, the attitude is that i dont care if my things are not as new, as i dont consider the time and hassle of keeping things mint to be worth it. As a result most of my things are a bit battered as i use them as they were intended and dont spend time worrying. I can appreciate that the leon looks better, but it would simply annoy me as i messed it up again as i know i would.

Taken from the winner of detailingworld.co.uk's monthly competition;

Now to be honest, for all the effort he describes having gone through, i'm not seeing much difference in that door compared to the panel... :/
All I can see there is a lot of orange peel.

I agree there is a pretty large difference in those pics Fox, but the lighting/angle is hardly identical in both sets of pics is it? The first example looks particularly bad due to the angle the pic was taken, and the way the light has fallen on it.

Stand 6 inches further back and at a different angle and it wouldn't look anywhere near as bad.

It wont look as bad from as far away but it will look as good as it does in the first pic from very close. Thats the thing - in the wrong light, your lovely Cupra R looks crap. After detailing, it looks perfect from any angle, in any light, at any distance.

To be fair a lot of people don't get modified cars either.

Indeed, horses for courses and all that. FWIW I don't hate the whole 'detailing' thing, I merely don't get it, and find it a little anal. It doesn't actually 'bother' me though, we all have different hobbies.

It's nice to have the latest toy, but anybody with a brain in their head can safely work a rotary. Even me.

The important bit is the choice of compound and pad used.

Stop putting off the job and get it done before the really crappy weather shows up.

You got any examples of what you've done with a rotary?

Going back to the UDM, its not getting great reviews tbh, the 110v seems to not offer much more than the PC and the vibrations seem to be worse.

I have used a PC and a rotary, rotary is far better, but i found my silverline just wasnt long lasting enough, it died after the 5 th time i used it on a car, and by the time id bought some decent pads and the backing plate, it wasnt much cheaper than the PC.

Im a firm believer in having a shiney car, it certainly helped me get top dollar for my dog of a A class.

Live and let live i say, if you wanna detail why do you a **** what some geeks on a pc forum say, lets face it how many people here own a modded or overclocked pc, thats just as sad imo.

Those pictures were particularly poor, even I couldnt see the difference. But the point is that on many cars you CAN see the difference.

Here is a freshly washed black Leon Cupra R:

It signifies everything thats wrong with buying a black car. Lovingly cleaned by a guy with a sponge and... oh dear. I mean look at it. Nice sunny day and your pride and joy, despite being immaculately clean and dried looks like a complete mess.

You have to all agree, it looks crap. Yes?

So, here comes a pointless, waste of time, OCD detailing moron to make no difference to the paintwork:

Surely now you get it?[/QUOTE]

Yeah but how often would it need doing to keep it looking like that, and how much time does it take to do each time round?

Once every six or twelve months I think, with the waxing stage renewed at 3 or somewhere thereabouts.

If you do it once, then a bit of care with washing (ie clean water and a decent mitt) would mean that you never need to do it again.
