Ultra-wide or NOT Ultra-wide?

Last year I moved from a 16:10 30" to a 34" 21:9 curved ultrawide. It took a few months to get used to it. At first I thought I'd made a mistake. But now I love it and wouldn't go back.

Last week I bit the bullet and invested in a 49" Samsung and my word, I love it. I was very apprehensive that I would get buyers remorse and it would be an expensive mistake. So relieved it was worth it, so yeah, agree with fellow posters. I missed my triple setup so a one screen solution sounded too good to be true. :)

I like my retro games and playing 1600X1200 Quake 3, I am genuinely gob smacked that the scaling works brilliantly. Yes, there are massive black borders either side, but you don't notice (a bit like a triple setup and turning off the side screens) or you could just play in a Window. For games where UW natively works, I like how there is no distortion, whereas with triple setup's you can get stretching on the side panels (the image in your peripheral vision is warped) with UW you don't get this problem. Not that it was a massive issue, but there is a difference. Very much recommend but recognise its not for everyone.

Would quite like to try 34" 1440p, but they're at least double what I'm trying to spend (approx £300).

How do people get on with the curve for productivity tho? Would use mine more for wfh than for gaming (but would still need to be 100+ Hz for gaming porpoises!)

You can get a 34" UW for £400 or less on sale. Just got my first curved screen and yes its weird but even after a few hours it actually starts to seem natural. And of course we have curved vision.

I'd be looking for IPS, 100-144Hz, FreeSync 2.

Which UW with decent specs is £400? I'll check it out.

Iiyama is £400 for IPS 144hz, freesync. Dont get me wrong it has issues around QC but at 400 quid its a trade off.

It was 350 here recently and can be had for 350 elsewhere every now and again.
