Is it a normal fire alarm you can buy from anywhere. If so, pull off the cover, remove the battery.

Do people have no life skills anymore!

I think the dude is thinking of a smoke alarm? you do mean smoke alarm right? not fire alarm? cos those are hotlinked to the fire brigade :p a smoke detector is a small mobile thing that sticks to your ceiling :p

I'm not sure what kind of alarm you are talking about. You make it sound specific to your room/flat, rather than the building?

im not sure what kind of alarm it is to be honest, I know its a something- alarm though :p I live in student resident if that helps :) its the white one on the celling :D

Can you take a pic of it?

Is it a beige colour with a small red button on?

its a beige colour thing with a small button (not red though) and has this written next to it "PUSH TO HUSH HOLD TO TEST WEEKLY"

If he can't work out how to disable a smoke alarm he deserves to be kept awake by it. :p

not cool ............ :p

The beeping means the tape is full. The porter is watching you.

That way it's probably going to be a hardwired system in there. The battery actually only acts as a backup and and beenps when it's low, those things can be annoying (depends on the model though). Still even if it's hardwired you should still be able to just take the battery out or infact if you have the right battery (usually 9v) just replace that yourself.

The ones we have in the student houses round here that are wired into the mains keep the battery in a small drawer which pulls out of the side of the detector just open it and pop the battery out, and I wouldnt be able to sleep with it beeping in my room either they are loud little buggers
