Un*******believable !!!

sounds like he lives in a block of flats where if the firealarm goes off the porter gets some form of warning.

i used to live in a block of flats with the same system, sometimes i would set off the alarm by burning toast or whatever and the porter would ring the intercom to see if everything was alright.

i doubt he can simply disconnect it but switching the battery is probably an option, take a look at the smoke alarm and see if its got any arrows on one side where your suposed to push it? the ones i had you simply applied a small amount of force to one side and it poped out of its socket on the ceiling and dangled down a few inchs so you could get to the underneath and change the back up battery.

there a pain in the ass to get back into place though :p

the ones in my current place are hardwired to the mains still but seem to recharge the backup battery because every few months it will emit a beep every few minutes but after awhile it goes away on its own

Why don't you, you know... kill it with fire?

excellent advice, thank you very much sir. Just done it and now the little bugger in my room is completely shut down, the whole place in on alarm though :p thats not too bad I guess since now I will have someone to talk to :D

neoboy's right

They all are hardwired to mains especially in ex-council rented accoms and hospitals/schools etc

Battery is solely for backup so removing it will do nowt

Now if you've got your own CU (fusebox laymans terms) go pull/trip the lighting circuits, That should shut it off

If he can't work out how to disable a smoke alarm he deserves to be kept awake by it. :p

The alarms that we have include the backup battery, so you can remove the square one but it will still retain power.
not much you can do about that ;]

edit: i see this has been covered already!
