Yeah, afternoon tea in London has got to be done. The girlfriend is quite fortunate in having been to most of the fancy 5* places for tea and her favourite was Brown's in Mayfair. She did not rate the Dorchester or Claridges for example. We've been to Fortnum & Mason which although touristy is excellent. Also the Swan at the Globe do a great afternoon tea, including a "gentleman's afternoon tea" which is awesome. Great spot for dinner too.How about some afternoon tea somewhere?
I'll be blunt because you say you're location is SE1 (and therefore you don't live in these areas) but I absolutely would not do this. I find the Dockland absolutely miserable. I lived there (near Thames Barrier Park) for a year and couldn't wait to get out. TBP is boring as hell, the whole area around City Airport is dull as you like with nothing but flats to look at. It's not worth the trek out to see the Thames Barrier, no way. And Woolwich is quite rightly regarded as a complete hole, full of chicken shops and youths with attitudes. Don't get me started on the cable car, what a massive waste of money that was. Go from somewhere completely pointless (Excel convention centre, woohoo ), to the O2. GreatIf you'd like a bit of a walk and to avoid tourists....then start at the o2, get the cable car across to the north bank and then start walking East along the river.<snip>
You can then get DLR or rail back to central London quite eaisly.
Seen as you're splashing the cash the Hawksmoor is definitely a great options. Best steak in London and you have to have a Shakey Pete cocktail before (it's the rules ). I found the Air Street one a little disappointing though; Spitalfields and Covent Garden are much nicer. As above check out the Swan at the Globe (you could see if anything is on at the Globe?). Great food, and the afternoon tea is good tea. Superb views of the river. One of the best non-touristy restaurants on the London scene has to be Gymkhana. Pretty expensive (I've not been ) but everyone raves about it. British game married with Indian flavours. Lush.Sweet info guys. Thanks, especially for some of the restaurant recommendations. I've thought about the cable car but O2 / Canary Wharf is a bit out of the way given our timescales.
Wherever did you school?Inject heroin in those bushes by Kings Cross station.
Wherever did you school?
i never realised there was somewhere BEHIND the Oxo Tower?!If you want to drop by my office behind the Oxo Tower, we are doing defibrillator demos with various suppliers and whilst a dummy is usually used, there's nothing like a live test subject. That's something untouristy.
I work in the same building as Duck & Waffle so we end up taking clients there quite a lot... It's alright but given how pricey it is, I wouldn't pay for it myself and there are far better places to eat fr the same/ lessI've never been but if you're wanting to do dinner with a view then it might be worth looking at Duck & Waffle.
