Hey, I've been asked to re-build a PC we have spare to be used else where at work. I have managed to do everything I need to set it up on the Local network with any difficulty, I now need to run some updates but no matter what I try I cant get the PC to connect to any web pages.

I am trying update.microsoft.com and it just returns 'Page cannot be displayed'

I know the internet connection is working as my work PC on the same network works fine (As this is what im using currently!)

I have tried ping and tracert to google from both machines, I get a reply on my machine but Request timed out on the other.

I've also tried clearing the ARP and DNS cache on the machine but still no luck.

I have read about re-installing TCP/IP

Im just in the process of trying a USB network adaptor to diagnose the network card, but if you guys have an other suggestions I'd be more than appreciative!

I take it in the device manager that it has detected and installed the correct drivers for your ethernet card?

Also with it being a Work Internet Connection do you have a proxy server setup and have you put the correct proxy server in?

we are using an ISA server to connect through, but as I stated above my machine is working perfectly through it as you can see by this post!

Network card appears to be working fine.

It gets the same DNS address etc etc as my pc does, and I can access machines and sites locally on the network.

your working perfectly ok because you have the proxy setting in your machine no? :) If you can access machine and sites locally it's got to be down to your ISA Server blocking you... turn Internet sharing on one machine and set the IP range to that pc and see if it works ;) Dont use DHCP btw :)

I have no proxy settings on my machine at all, its all picked up from the DHCP.

I have just given the PC a static IP and put in the DNS as firstly the ISA and secondly the DHCP and it works, but when i put it back to DHCP it stops again. So the problem must reside on the DHCP settings the PC gets...

Although the settings are the same that I set statically??

look at you ISA logs - any attempts to access the internet?. Also try a ping -a to a website and see if DNS is working (you will get IP resolution). Default gateway should be the internal address of the isa server (ipconfig -a or netstat -rn look for the 0.0.0.0 entry)

to check the box is OK TCP/IP wise - ping 127.0.0.1 or ping the other local box.

I suspect that you have a bit of proxy configuration to do to let your box through the ISA server - what version are you running?
