Unable to do a Raid 0

OK I installed the "Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) RAID Driver" by downloading the SetupRST.exe Version: 12.9.0.1001

And I get an error message "Platform not supported"?

well i say yes, but i was just trying o install the utility to make sure i got the right one before erasing my os and starting again.

I am still running my previous raid 0 i created but just thought the utility would still install so that I had an idea on what to expect?

You said you downloaded version 12, not version 9. I suggest you check the minimum requirements in the readme docs from Intel and make sure your system meets it.

At this point, I don't really know. It might be because IRST can only see one disk, but I didn't think that would stop you installing.

If I were in your position, I would break the current RAID and start from scratch. If you've only just installed, it shouldn't take you more than half an hour to reinstall Windows onto a single drive and then see if you can install IRST.

I know this works in principle because I've done it myself on a couple of different systems, so there's something specific about your system that won't let it work.

OMG................. Think I have found where we was going wrong..

We almost got the sequence right...

I found in BIOS that when you select Raid you then have a selection either rtse or IRST

I was using the RSTe and that was giving me the wrong chipset drivers hence why the IRST software was throwing errors...

Now when i use IRST in BIOS and then install to one drive i notice i get the ICH etc.. and the IRST software now installed and then created the volume and it copied the data across and now I have (I think) a fully working raid 0 that now also shows in the Intel Toolbox as SSD where as before toolbox never seen them as ssd.

So I did a quick AS SSD benchmark and got score of over 1200 is this expected?

The read was 900+ mb/s and the write was 500+ mb/s

Glad you finally got it sorted. IRSTe are enterprise drivers, and they work pretty differently, so I'm not surprised they didn't work correctly.

Your benchmark scores sound reasonable for an X79 board, but as I don't have one so I'm probably not a good person to ask.

No problem. Just make sure you have backups, as if you are using two SSDs as a boot drive in RAID 0, if you lose one of them, you'll lose all your data, and will have to reinstall.

glad you got it working,i had no idea with raid

thought you didn't need any pre install drivers tho with raid and win7/8

You should be able to install with Win 7/8 to a single disk that running in RAID mode, but installing to a running array can get more complex. You're basically trying to build and then install an OS to an array with very minimal tools (such as the Intel RST firmware OROM). It's kind of like trying to set things up in DOS.

For arrays (ie more than one disc) I've always found it quicker and easier to install to a single disk and then use the proper (friendly) tools to create arrays accurately and easily, and have the utils migrate the data for you.
