Unable to get access to my router

I need to access my router to disable the wi-fi as my neighbor keeps hacking it.

I tried to access the router today but my password has been changed on the router and I can no longer access it. The router is a Super Hub. My service provider is Virgin Media.

I know I'm probably due a new Router by now as this one was fitted sometime ago. Its a real pain trying to get through to Virgin Media. The longer I leave it the longer my neighbor gets to muck about.

Any help would be appreciated

The reset will only reset the router having no affect on passwords.

I tried that several times. It should work but doesn't unless there is another default password different to the one written at the bottom of my router?

According to Virgin's page here it will reset all passwords.

Important tip: The Hub will return to factory settings, so if you’ve made any changes such as updating your WiFi password, you’ll need to set these up again after the Hub has reset.

That is what it says in google as well. For some reason the router doesn't want to reset properly. I feel the button click as I hold it down for 10 seconds and the router turns off until I release the button and then the router starts up but sometimes doesn't and then I have to power it off and back on again until it starts up correctly again.

I also tried holding down the reset button for longer than 10 seconds but nothing changes. I'm on the phone to Virgin Media technical department at the moment on hold.
 
Sounds like something is wrong. Bare in mind the reset takes a fair few minutes to do its job.

Another thing you can try is the 30 30 30 reset, this usually works if the normal reset method is not working: https://www.router-reset.com/30-30-30-reset-factory-defaults-wireless-router

  • When a router is powered on, press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
  • While still holding the reset button pressed, unplug the power of the router and hold the reset button for another 30 seconds.
  • While still holding the reset button down, turn on the power to the unit again and hold for another 30 seconds.

Make sure the Hub is switched on at the wall and at the back of the Hub:)
Also make a shield out of lead or tinfoil and put around router on `his` side....might stop the signal from reaching his house
another thing to try is when you are not using the internet keep an eye on the router when it is being accessed after a few mins pull the plug,should mess up what he is DL:D
 
They are going to send out a new router.

The foil could also act as a reflector making the signal more directional. I can pick up wifi signals from streets away on a long yagi 2.4 GHz antenna. I tried to pick up McDonalds wifi signal with it when my internet went down once.

Yes, they would. Especially if you tell them he’s downloading (take your pick of banned things).

They’ll be right round and knock his door in, seize all his electronics (and possibly yours) and you’ll need to go to court to get them back.

Don’t ask me how I know this… ;)

I couldn't go through all of that. I have to much to be getting on with and need my computers for working.

Hopefully he wasn't but if he did and the police came to me then I would explain whats been happening. Hopefully its all over now.
