Hi folks, I'm hoping one or more of the resident geniuses might be able to shed some light on a little problem I'm having.
I recently put together a Quad core system using a Q6600 G0 chip, all was well for a while. First couple of days I had a play with the clock speed then dropped it back down to stock while it I was happy everything was working well and stable. After about 8 days Vista rebooted. No blue screens or error messages it just hard locked and then rebooted. Since then I have been unable to even reinstall Vista, the installer stops straight after the 'Windows is loading files..." screen going to a black screen and staying there until I eventually press reset.
I have tried all sorts from different cables, HD's, DVD, Memory combinations and even removing expendable cards like the Xfi to no avail. I have even tried a different Motherboard and both the original Abit IP35 and the Gigbyte GA 965P-DS3 boards produce exactly the same results.
I have also run Memtest86 and after a 6 hour run there were 0 errors.
I have the following:
Intel Q6600 G0
Abit IP35 / Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3
Tuniq Tower (Temperatures are low)
4gb RAM (4*1gb - tried in all configurations)
Nvidia 8800GTX
SB X-FI
650W Enermax PSU
Having change the board and run the memory tests I'm kinda leaning towards the CPU but I could be and often are wrong, anyone have any other idea's?
All input greatfully received.
Regards.
Jon
