Unable to send message, retrying..

I'm 99.9% sure that it is something to do with the way that the desire sends text messages that cause a problem on the O2 network. It may be because there is no 'outbox' function and if the text message can't go straight away (dodgy coverage or busy local cell) then it just comes up with the error.

I've never had this issue once with O2 with an iPhone, sounds like a pretty flawed design if it's causing Fox as much trouble/annoyance as above.

Fox, can you try turning off your data connection and texting without a data connection? I have seen similar problems with other Android phones e.g T-mobile Pulse and Samsung Galaxy S. The phones will drop texts and miss calls becuase the phone is connected to the 2G or 2.5G edge network. If you have a 3G connection the phone can upload/download data and receive texts and calls simultaneously, where as on 2G it doesn't have the necessary bandwidth.

Sounds like a great solution!

I will try this.

I missed a call yesterday as well, my girlfriend rang me and asked why I hadnt answered a few seconds earlier - my phone had never rung...

And for all the Iphone fanboys, this can also affect Iphones when they have to fall back onto a 2G network connection. Due to so many backgrounds apps checking for updates over the slower 2G gprs network, the Iphone can also fail to receive phonecalls and instead sends the call direct to voicemail.

I will be interested to see what Fox comes back with.

:p

Good try.

I just sent a text message and immediatly received a reply to a previous message dated nearly 2 hours ago.

Is the O2 network really this bad?

Get this sometimes on my Desire on Orange too...tbh I think its either a software bug, or triggered when network strength is fluctuating rapidly.

Orange signal near MK is surprisingly pants so it wouldnt surprise me.

I've had a Tescomobile 30 day rolling sim for the past 3 weeks, not had any problems so far with the o2 network. But I have used 85% of my data allowance already though, I think the 500mb allowance might not be enough. I've even disabled data for a few days to save on data usage.

Hey how did you work out your usage?
I just joined tesco and saw the £4 per mb over :(. is there a number to text?

If you sign onto your online tescomobile account, you can see graphs showing your usage of minutes, texts and data. https://paymonthly.tescomobile.com/orderentry/MyAccountLogIn.do

I have installed 3G Watchdog on my LG GT540 and it records your usage, daily, weekly and monthly. You can set limits and alarms as well, a very good free app on Android.

O2 fluctuates between acceptable and awful for me. Once a week or so, my messages will go for an eight hour wander before the recipient receives them.
I'll be looking for a different provider next time that's for sure!

Wow I never had any of these problems when I was on O2, and I was with them for almost 7 years!

Just moved onto Virgin Mobile with my Desire, and I sometimes get problems with text messages.

Pretty sure o2 have serious issues. Just moved over to T-Mobile (with Orange roaming) on my 3GS and all my weird text/call issues have gone.

I also had voicemails coming through without the phone ever ringing.
Not receiving texts.
Texts being received a day late etc.

Serously I'm going to wait for my Goodybag to expire then I'm moving. This is beyond a joke. As I type this my Desire is sat on my mousepad going 'beep beep' every 5 seconds with 'Unable to send, retrying'.

Oh, it's finally sent. Great :p

Ah well, at least I'm not tied into anything. Shame because the deal Giffgaff offer is exceptional.

Thanks very much, although I signed up in store so have no idea how to log in :(
I guess I'll send them a mail
