Unable to send message, retrying..

If I send a message whilst the H icon is displayed and it can't communicate with the tower and drops back to E I get the error sending the message.

When I am at home I can cure this by sticking the phone into GPRS mode only, but if you are in an area where the signal is weak all the time then even this option isn't available to you.

I'm on Orange, and it happens to me a lot when I'm at home, and this is pretty much exactly the conclusion I've come to as to why it does it.

It never does it at work, as I'm right across the road from the cell towers with full signal. I can text like a fiend all day at work with no issue, and when I carry on at home I'll get temporary failures every so often
 
I get this every couple of days using my HTC Desire. Had the same problem with the HTC Hero.

T-Mobile customer if that's any help, so it's not just limited to O2.
 
I get this in low signal (eg: work where there are 3 floors above me and I'm in the centre of the building) areas too with Tmobile and a Desire.

If you use it, I found Handcent SMS exacerbates the issue, and going back to the stock HTC sms app is more successful (still does it though occassionally).
 
The app shouldn't make a difference, they still tell the OS to send the message, app has nothing to do with the actual sending of it sorry.

I agree, however, i must say that I notice it far more with handcent than the stock rom. It may just be coincidence though

I have to say I see this too. I get many more failures with Handcent than I do with the stock app, but handcent is so much better it's worth it :p
