Lo all,

I was having a drunken chat with a few friends last night and we got onto the subject of teenage mothers (mums under the age of 16).

One mate believes they should have more support due to their age etc, this friend fell pregnant at 17 when a condom didnt do its job. The lad left and her little girl is now 6 and is lovely, shes done a gret job at raising her.

However, i said that anyone who falls pregnant under the age of 16 shouldnt receive any financial aid from the government. Sex is illegal under the age of 16 so if you get pregnant you did so breaking the law! You shouldnt get anything for breaking the law, especially a house/flat! Or at least finish school.

I know it sounds rather harse and could result in a small rise in crime but if these girls knew they would get nothing for having kids then perhaps they would rather go out and try to earn a living instead of having kids so they can sit at home smoking!

I was just wondering what everyone elses views are on this as the group seemed pretty evenly split over it.

No it isn't.

But as the funding point, it's very difficult. You have to balance the chances of the baby without any funding against the fact you are giving these kids incentives to have kids.

As it stands the benefts system as a whole is completely messed up.

So its technically rape but nobody ever really gets done for it.

However, removing benefits will never solve the problem, I seriously doubt that a majority of underage monthers plan to get pregnant at that age. Removing the benefits would probably do more harm than good since I doubt the national tax strain is that great in comparison to other sinks.

If the girl is under 16 and has sex with a 16+ boy she commits no offence but the male does.

So sex under 16 isn't necessarily illegal.

So an 18 year old can have sex with a 15 year old legally? I always thought both parties we treat the same didnt realise it was just the male who would get into trouble.

this shouldn't go to SC because it's a question of ethics and they have none :p

under-16 mothers should receive the same benefits as over-16 mothers. regardless of whether they're dirty little hoes or not, they shouldnt get preferential treatment and they shouldn't be ignored. bottom line. no arguing.

why should they be any different just because they chose to have sex young? accidents happen, and they're still human.

Education, education, education, education, education, education, education . .

I wonder how many sub-16 year olds (male and female - except one suffers mroe) that have had children were saying "it can't happen to me" only 40 weeks previously.

And just how many 16 year old mums have 32 year old mothers themselves.

Being a massive paedophile - 2 years in prison
Being young and stupid enough to get pregnant - 18 year custody of a child and £100,000+ fee in total

hmmm!

I think the benefits system should be more work orientated. The government could invest a lot more in Nurserys so that the teenage mothers could go out to job training and finally get a job.

It means the money isn't wrongly used by the mothers as it's going straight to the children through the use of the nursery.

They are young, and not as experienced as a "Normal" mother should be. If they get treated like anyone else, then we as a society will have to pay for it one way or the other. Just think about the future.

Under age mothers should be forced to either have an abortion or their parent held accountable for their cilds actions.

Why should my hard erned wages have to pay for a child to have a child before she is legally allowed to have sex ???

If the above position were law, then there would be a lot less unwanted kids in the world and girls would maybe think twice before getting into a chavs bed !

i'm sorry but if you believe that then you're more tunnelvisioned than i thought. i fully believe that a 15 year old straight-A student that has a child will give that child a much better life than a 26 year old with no qualifications already on the dole. what do you think?

(i'm not saying that these are the only types of mother, before anyone picks holes in that)

!

Some will argue that's going to far, you cant force some one to have an abortion or hold the parent accountable. i think it breaches one's human right anyway.

Single mums of all ages should get the same level of support. I've said on here a lot of times that education about sex and other subjects in school is rubbish. The fact is until there is a better level of education and information for young girls (or a way of attaching a chastity belt at birth) then young mums are a thing we're going to need to get used to.

But surly the child haws No right to have sex under 16 years of age......

Well that's what the law says but that's not what is happening in real life. Girls of 12 have sex these days (and this is one i know about)
