Underclocking?

I still use a 939 machine with X2 3800+ @ 2.8ghz. Could I take the fan off completely and run it at 1.8ghz? Same with my 8800GT, lower the speed so the fan is on slowest or off for a silent machine.

This will probably be pointless anyway as I have 5 hard drives

If the heatsink has a bit of meat to it you should be fine!

Give it a try fanless, boot straight into BIOS >> Health Options and watch the temp for a few mins . . .

An Accelero S1 rev2 will cool an underclocked 8800gt without issue with a little case airflow.

And bungee the HHD - will make a world of differance to there noise/temp

What is 'Bungee' ?

In basic terms, 'Bungee' is using elastic bands or other rubber devices instead of screws to attach the HD to the case
