Underrated/cult movies?

Far too many well known films that aren't underrated at all :p For something a bit more on topic :

Savior (1998).

Grim. But very good. Well, very good might be overselling it. It's a good film. With one of the most savage scenes I think I've ever seen, and won't ever forget.

I see a lot that has been mentioned but would add

F&F Tokyo Drift.
American Pie.
Kevin & Perry go large.

None of them are serious but all films of their time and very telling of the culture during the time. If you wanted a snippet of what it was like to be a teenager/young adult in the early 2000's it is these films and people can relate to that. The Kevin & Perry soundtrack is an absolute banger as well.

That film broke me by the end - some horrific scenes.

Most of my picks have already been mentioned but I'll add a few that i don't think have.
Primer
Predestination
Irreversible
A serbian movie
The human centipede
I think the last 3 are/were banned so watch with caution

watched a film 'Serenity' the one filmed back in 2005 not the trashy thing that they did in 2019

was supposed to have been part of a possible sci fi serious but the proper episodes never got off the ground due to poor management

anyway the film that they made about it was actually quite good, good mixture of cast and could have been a great sci fi hit if people who managed the film/series did better

It was a TV series called Firefly. Film and series both pretty good, but not great. Probably overrated imo!

Certainly not underrated but the cult petrol head film is Le Mans (1971).

The making of documentary is just as fascinating as the film. During the final scene, where McQueen gives the famous V sign, drove 3 laps in a 917 to get his temple veins pumping to look the part of a driver who'd driven the race.

All we have now is Fast and the Furious...

The Adventures of Tintin, the Spielberg film, I class as severely underrated and it is a real shame there doesn't look like there will be any sequels any time soon or ever.

Enemy Mine. Low budget scifi flick with Dennis Quaid and Lou Gosset Jnr. Almost no-one seems to know this movie but I absolutely love it it starts out a bit like Starship Troopers with a gung ho bunch of humans out to defeat a bunch of evil aliens. Except maybe things aren't quite as black and white as they appear and just maybe the humans have a lot to answer for. The ending will hit you right in the feels. Gosset would go on to voice the Vortiguants in Half Life 2 etc I'm sure they had this performance in mind when they asked him.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky, saw this as a teen and was absolutely entranced. Not sure if Studio Ghibli counts as cult or underrated but its off almost everyones radar
