Unemployed 'must learn English'

good idea.

it's done here in Belgium infact you must follow courses if you are looking to stay as an exile in Belgium

Sounds totally reasonable to me, should have been implemented a long time ago.

I don't advocate forcing people to learn a language just to be here, but if they expect state support, it's an entirely reasonable proposition.

I agree, although I would go so far as to say that people should be encouraged to learn english just to be here.

Finallly !! for a long time now local councils have been providing lots of expensive support for people in different languages which is simply encouraging people not to learn english..

OMG the racism!!!!! sorry I was just imagining the out cry from the lawyers of those scrounging ******** who cant speak/read English.

I must admit i would find it very hard to learn a new language...which is why I don’t go and live in another country, how sensible am I? :D

This mite be the first sensible suggesting they have ever had - fully support it. :)

not unreasonable, if they don't they are reducing their chances of employment

I agree but I would also include British people that speak in this West Indies nonsense despite being white and born here.

When abroad i attempt ( poorly ) to speak the lingo and feel anyone here should do the same. I am all for this.

Nice idea in principle, in practice all it will mean is more government dosh for the corrupt language schools.
