You need the MSI bios to unlock the upper ram limit. Asus only works on the core.

there's been crossfire 3870's a 4890 system and a couple of crossfire 5770 systems

Here's mine at default. Crossfired 5770's and an old Q9550...I certainly don't class this setup as highend but seems to do ok.

Depends what quad. I7 is different to Q6600. 6600 has been around for a few years now. I dont see any dual core setups in here either (unless ive missed them)

New mid range i would class as i3 & 5770

You have 2 5870s at about £330 each. £650 for a graphics card i would hardly call mid range! Mid range is more like £100. budget is about £50 and high end I would say is £250+

your just falls into the category of extortionate! you could buy a PS3, a flat screen tv and a stack of games for the same price!
