Uniforms at work

My new job has a pretty relaxed dress code to the point (probably) once summer arrives I could wear shorts and a t-shirt! At the moment I just wear some black cargo pants which have big pockets (handy for tools etc), a t-shirt and a thick jumper since it's so damn cold!

As for foot wear... steel toe capped boots! Keep my toes safe :)

No, if there is a guy who comes around to fix the lights then it is reasonable for him to be wearing a uniform so he can be identified. But if they employ a light guy to sit a desk for 40 hours a week and cover it 24/7 for light problems and he his face is in the company directory and so on. Then there is no need for him to be in a uniform and it is makes more sense to for him to dress as everyone does.

that is completely irrelevant to my post - I've not mentioned the necessity or otherwise of the uniform

We technically have a policy
- Shirt
- Jeans (if they are not ripped, just plain jeans) otherwise work trousers
- Shoes - plain shoes (work shoes)

Most people play ball and where a shirt and either jeans or trousers and proper work shoes. Some don't though.
I did for like 2 days and just gave up.
Been wearing t-shirt, jeans, plimsoles and a hoodie for 9 months, nothings been said.
Do you work in a primary school PE class?

Just watching the snooker and thought of this thread. Why do snooker players still insist on dressing up like Butlers to play what is essentially a pub game?

The players on at the moment are both wearing ties. Then they wear a waist coat over that and tuck the tie in. Clearly the dangling nature of a tie makes it inappropriate for snooker so why not just wear a T-shirt instead?

you seem to care far too much what other people think of you.

Wear the uniform. if you want to wear a posh suit and have everyone think you look awesome on the tube you should have become the lawyer in the first place.

I wear bright orange Hi-Viz all day, and go to work in jogging bottoms with holes in them.

Looks at it this way, you get to save more money from not having to buy clothing for work as it's now provided. (or buy more of your gourmet takeaways that surely contains unfrozen meat)

Looks to be fair, until you get the uniform, and put it up for us to comment, you can't make any assumption that it's a) poor fit b) poor quality c) make you look less of an IT personnel - of which you are.

At my work, I have to go in shirt, tie and trousers. I'd be happy for an office uniform as our company actually have a set of shirt that has our logo embroiled, subtle and still distinguished, plus, we pride ourself to our Brand.

Unless your company really have a bad rep or a poor name, having the logo / company name on should be a source of pride that you're working for said company.

If I were your boss and you want to leave because of uniform, I'd rather you go than be forced to take pride at where and who you work for. If there's no work pride, what's driving you to make the company greater and better?

I have also wondered this many times. Probably a rich mans game back in the day, and the tradition of the attire has stuck.

Pretty silly though. Supprised O'Sullivan hasnt started coming in a hoodie yet tbh.

whats the uniform?

I've got branded t shirts and blue pants but tbh **** ruining my own cloths there lol.

cause if this uniform is they want you to wear a normal collard shirt with an embroidered logo you're being silly.

although one thing i've found go out early morning/later at night when the dog walkers/older people are out normal clothes leather jacket or hoodie get stares and averted gazes, go out in my airbus top or fleece and get smiles and hellos and good mornings etc.

it's nice tbh.

in a corporate office with loads of lawyers or bankers or any type of business man who dress smart they will respect people less if they wear a uniform. They won't be as comfortable at speaking to them with any authority.

lol utter garbage, how stuck up do you sound, oh look i must be part of the lawyers and bankers scene.

Here have a name badge this should impress the planks from the city:)

Well if the uniform is pretty much the same anyways you can wear your own trousers if you like. Just need to wear the shirt which isnt going to be bad.
When Ive had to wear uniform I have always used my own trousers as they are more comfy and even in the last place where I worked they didnt mind me wearing dark blue instead of black. Just got to wear the right shirt.
You just sound bit childish with moaning about this tbh...
