Hi all,

I'm after a single controller for use with emulating software. Looking at building an emulator with my RaspPi and need a nice controller to go with it.

Thinking pad over joystick but I need to make sure its got enough buttons to mimic all the old controllers.

Any ideas? Don't fancy spending a fortune either.

yeah I've considered that and will be a last resort.

I was ideally after something that had more buttons on the front like the megadrive controllers. 360 would be ideal for N64 games though.

I'll keep searching and if I can't find anything soon i'll have to use my highstreet voucher for a wireless 360 adapter (if they ever have them in stock) :(

you can easily buy USB variants of megadrive (inc 6 button), Saturn, Nes and SNES controllers easily. just pop onto the auction site... that said, the build quality on some are to be questioned.

I would either go Xbox controller, Microsoft Sidewinder pad or If you want to go proper retro, look at http://www.retrousb.com you can buy USB>Controller adaptors so you can use original controllers on the usb port.

Can't really go wrong with the Microsoft X360 one, either wired or the wireless with adapter version. Works well in emulators such as pcsx2

Leo Bodnar USB controllers are superb.
I built my custom (For Mechwarrior) throttle/rudder/button stick around a Saitek X45 throttle using Leo's USB controller. Simple to wire switches and pots into it. Can support up to 32 buttons and 8 analogue axis. 12bit resolution too.
USB is plug and play - super simple.

I used this:

(if you want it even easier, there an "X" version where you just prod the wires into push-in terminals - but it is much more expensive)
