Universim

I am aware what an early access is and I am aware there will be potentially plenty of problems, which is why I would like to know
(very roughly) how long one can play the game before a major error pops it's ugly head up?

So far, very rarely. They test it very well and then it has a few days in the Steam beta program before then fully being released. Quite a few times an update has been delayed on order for them to fix major bugs before releasing.

The main thing to be aware of is that while in alpha, each time there is an update you have to start a new game (which is why updates were pushed to every two months - then everyone moaned and it’s gone back to every month). The game has made huge progress this year and is getting great reviews on Steam. It has a lot of potential.

Restarting your game after every update is unusual, so ty for the heads up on that; will plan to pick up the game anyway within a month and try it out.

The beta has arrived!

It’s been a while since we were last here together! You know, reading patch notes, braiding hair, listening to a few of your favorite playlists. However, our small break was for a good reason. We’re officially moving into BETA! This means all the tools and features we need for full release are technically in the game, but we’re keeping a few things locked for now as we refine them and add content (there’s still A LOT of new stuff to play with anyway). The good news is, we’re planning to release The Universim in its entirety this year! The big 1.0 launch will see all of the hard work spent on systems, simulations, AI, sound, art, and more over the years finally smooshed together in a wonderful package.

1.0 will drop this year

I’m really looking forward to this. It’s been fun to play throughout development and I did wonder if it would ever be released. It’s not perfect, but it definitely fills a gap in the market.

The next question is how well it runs. It used to bog down terribly later on in the game, but then hardware has come a long way over the course of its development.

The Universim is now officially available for Windows on GOG.com* and Steam. This concludes a lengthy journey, as this civilization simulation first entered Early Access back in 2018. Here's the 1.0 Full Release Gameplay Trailer from last month showing the culmination of 10 years of development and here's a new Release Trailer celebrating today's news. This post on Steam has the team's reflections on the journey that's led to this point. Here's word on this chance to play god:
The Universim features more than 200 research perks that will help you to shape your civilization. Be as benevolent or malevolent as you like to drive nuggets to evolve, advance, and expand. (Even the best civilizations need an occasional smiting).

Every planet in The Universim is procedurally generated and offers unique characteristics and challenges, ensuring that every world and every game is unique and engaging. Ecological balance and resource management are critical to success. Nuggets have their own needs and behaviors you must attend to. Your guidance will shape how they deal with conflicts, natural disasters, alien creatures, and other civilizations. Their growth and evolution depends on you!
