Hi all,

I've been offered an interview at Manchester Uni next February for a place on an undergraduate course and I'm just looking for tips and hints on what to expect. I'm presuming they're going to ask the usual 'why do you want to do this course?' stuff but I'm just wondering if I should expect any in depth probing or curveball questions?

Cheers.

from experiance, it's unlikely to be an interview interview, i've been to warwick and cardiff so far and both were merely a 5 minuite chat

I had 4 interviews, some were more informal 5 minute chats and showing your portfolio whilst others there were two interviewers and it went on for longer. The best one however ended up being a chat about horror films.

My university interview was with three of the Dr/Proffs and was along the lines of why I wanted to do the course, what my background was and I had to speak about a project I had done at school. There was some technical questions but nothing complicated. Lasted about 30mnins I think.

I went for an interview at Birmingham for an MSc and it was a 15 minute chat bout my previous ed and a bit about the subject of the new course. It wasn't particularly taxing but don't put your gaurd down either and be prepared for very simple questions in the field of study.

Read up/revise a little on some key concepts you've covered during a related A-level course. I remember for my Cambridge interview, they asked me to do a load of differentiations and integrations in front of them. Had no idea to expect that, and must have come across woefully unprepared. :p

I may have you mistaken for someone else, but are you the Eng student? If so, what discipline did you choose?

OP just ask them at interview what are the chances of landing the job after you have done the course? That should make them very nervous and edgy lol. I bet they won't give straight answer;).

I can speak with some authority - they wouldn't care :). The department might, the interviewer certainly won't. You're ultimately distracting them form their research.

A copy of your bank statements with the requisite amount?
First post... for that? Holy cynical batman :D
