Well I'm now at a quandary due to the iMac update and pricing.

I could either buy the lowend Macbook & Dell 2007fpw for around £900 or go for the lowend iMac for £680, save a bit of money but be annoyed that I've lost the portability. University wise, what would be the best plan of action in your eyes, I'd definitely be getting a better deal with the iMac but I'm torn because I wouldn't be able to move it around.

Decisions, I think I'm in the same boat as jesta here.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure whether portability is something you have to consider at uni. I mean, I don't think I'd take a laptop to lectures with me. I just prefer to sit and write things down in pen/paper and then type it back to the computer so that it gets processed through your brain again.

Typically, after lectures, one would head to the nearest pub which again could prove to be a bit dangerous if you take a laptop. If you have one too many you might forget you brought it, leave it on the chair and it could end up being nicked.

The only thing that annoys with me the iMac is no way for the screen to display any other input. I'd love to run a PS3/Xbox 360 through it!!

Yeah that's true, I imagine I wouldn't take my laptop to lectures but I know that it'd be nice to have a change of scenery once in a while aka outside, a café or the library and not have to worry about queuing for one of their pc's when it's busy.

Hmm decisions... I was planning on taking my SNES and possibly run that on the 2007wfp but apparently that doesn't work / would look awful but I don't fancy having to take a portable TV much, ohhh welll....

Why not get an iMac and a TV tuner? :)

Keep the computer at your house, and just write down the notes on an A4 notepad.

Speaking from experience I would have found a laptop handy, but it certainly didn't disadvantage me in any way.

I think you would be happier with the macbook. this allows you to go round mates rooms/coffee bars/libary etc, don't need to take to lectures or anything ;)

Then the screen could be a tele and can hook cool things upto it. Just my opinion. When i go there, i'll most likely take a nice little laptop ( 13.3in screen ) and get a desktop pc/imac aswell. But thats just me :D

Hmm, I suppose that's not a bad idea. I think a 13" screen would be too small to work on, but I could then use the difference (£400) to get a Dell 22"/24" or something and take along my Xbox 360, too! Well done, that man.

EDIT: I suppose one could go down the Mac mini route too with an external monitor. Oh dear. Now I have to decide again. LOL.

I'd get a MacBook + screen if I had the choice of those options..

The mini is nice, but you can't take it to lectures, which could come in handy (suppose it depends on the course).

I'm thinking to go for the macbook & dell 2007wfp despite how much it hurts me not getting an iMac, but that'll be something for the future, problem is now I need to save up a bit more money as I need to buy an external mouse, keyboard and speakers lol :p

I've already got a 22in screen so I think I'm going to get a macbook for uni. Will the screen definitely hook up?
Yes :)

It comes with the adapter (VGA-DVI), so it's a case of plug and play essentially.

Sweet, MacBook it is then. Would really love an iMac but not much use at Uni i suppose :(
You would get more work done at home on an iMac.

Suppose it depends if you need to take your computer to the lectures
