Basically, the original 6950s were exactly the same as the 6970s except with some of the shaders locked off in the bios. So by replacing the 6950 bios with a 6970 bios, you suddenly had a fully functioning 6970.

The HD 6950's also had lower rated VRAM chips than the HD 6970's.

I sent it back to Overclockers yesterday, got an email back today saying they're going to send out a replacement, and guess what I'm going to leave it the hell alone lol.
I'd be interested to see what diagnostics they did on the card to find out what it was that actually failed

No need to get nasty dude, I learned my lesson, I'm just glad it didn't cost me another £200
I think we should point OcUK to this thread and see if they replace the card then

Guys, give me a break, I had the card less than a week and it broke, whether its due to something I did or not, OC obviously couldn't get it working therefore I got a replacement. As I said, I learned my lesson and it didn't cost me another £200.

Did I say I was entitled to one? No, sorry if I came across as arrogant, I don't think I deserve one as you say, I broke it. I'm just glad u get a replacent without having to buy another one
even if you try again and don't brick it, it will not unlock unless ocuk happen to have old stock of the gen1 sitting about in their warehouse.
if you wanted chance of unlock you should have coughed up the extra for the sapphire toxic, I've got 2 of which 1 I've tested thus far(unlocks) and not had a chance to try the other yet(been meaning for the past week but lazy to take this one out and put that one in, currently no room to have both fitted but will be upgrading my whole system soon and both will be going in it).

I realise I'm lucky, to be honest OCuk have been amazing, I've bought so much stuff from them and I've only been on here a few weeks, they're prices, availability and customer service are amazing. I can't believe I ever used to buy stuff from that other PC place
