Unlocking/modding a 6950

I am 98.8798495% sure the FrozR has dual boot because I cocked up the first day I got it and had to flick the switch to the back to get it to boot, then I flicked the switch whilst it was on and flashed back the original BIOS into position one and then it would boot on both positions.

When I get home I will try flicking it back to position 2 and see if it still says 14** shaders instead of 15** just to clarify though.

I've just recently this weekend successfully flashed my 6950 Cucore II to a 6970 using that guide, so to say a Toxic is the latest card that this can be done to is incorrect.

I did however have to it the longer way by modding my own original BIOS suing the program linked to in the guide of teh sticky thread..

Does the CUII have dual bios?

If anyone does this to a different card can they please state if the card has dual bios.

this is the card I bought on friday, and managed to flash it no problem.

As I say I couldnt use the downloaded reference 6970 BIOS though as it made the card both usntable and stopped all of the display ports working except DVI #1.

If you follow the guide in the sticky at the bottom is says if you dont have a reference card to follow a link - which takes you to a program that you can load the CUII's default BIOS into, and then unlock the shaders on it and reflash it.

One thing I would mention about the card though is that although there are two BIOS's number 2 is not protected and they can be both overwrote, so be very careful

Hmm, looks like I might have to do the same. I tried to unlock the shaders on my Asus CuCore last night, and they wouldn't unlock with RBE despite flashing OK and booting.

Weirdly RBE defaults to the values in program of 6970 shaders, and recognises it's running a modified RBE BIOS. GPU-Z doesn't like it though, and still says it's got 1400-odd shaders.

Wacky.

Randal - if you would like me to send you the BIOS that I have used to flash mine which worked then I can do, just give me a shout via email in trust - also if you wanna know anything more specific about falshign this specific card I can help out.

hey

kinda hijacking this thread, but i've been running a 6950 sapphire for some months already on the 6970 bios, flashed the second bios.

I've not had any problems with it, just wanted to check that i wasnt killing the card slowly, as i could always go back and modify the other way.
It has been running with the +20% power options.

Feck199, the general feeling on 6950 flashing at the moment seems to be, by all means unlock the shaders but thats it, anything else just OC from 6950 specs. 1536 880/1350 should be easily done on the majority of dual bios 6950's.

Cheers, i'm trying to do a little research on it atm, i didnt even realise how long ive had this card, order was placed on 17/01/11, so flashing was within a few days of that.

+ i did use the correct bios at the time, erm by correct i mean a 6970 sapphire one.

slightly concerned about it now, but 8-9months on i guess i would have noticed by now.

Order says card was Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
