**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I've had my Michelin Pilot Sport 4's on my 530d for about 6 months now and am happy to confirm they have absolutely transformed the car. This is my first time on non-runflats on this car - it came from new on Pirelli PZero RFT which were absolutely awful, and I swapped to Star Marked Goodyear Eagle F1 AS3 RFT's once they were done. The F1's were good, I never found the ride particularly poor as such, but I never seem to get anyone to be able to properly balance runflat tyres.

Now it's on 4 PS4 it glides along wonderfully. I wish I'd done this years ago - I've had F10's for 6 years and never have I been able to experience them driving quite as nicely as this one does now.

I take it you have a tin of goo and a mini air compressor? Is it the genuine BMW kit?

I’m looking to ditch the Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFTs on the 440i, but the car comes with nothing in the way of “get you out of trouble” tyre equipment. I’m currently carrying a cruddy “Ring” branded compressor, but want to sort out both the compressor and the can of stuff when addressing the tyres.

Are you still under the BMW Warranty or out of it now?

Glad to hear they are as incredible as expected. Wish I could do the same for the X5, but the dealer put brand new P-Zero RFTs so I'm not going to waste them or have to faff around regarding warranty as I know the transfer case in these can be effected by incorrect tyre specs/size.

Plus the 40d has some kind of air suspension at the rear due to the 3rd row seating so hopefully that helps. It's not the full on dynamic roll control etc.

Still under warranty.

The rear air suspension on the X5 isn't because of the 3rd row seating, it's standard just like on the 5 Series Touring on which it is based :)

No good black friday deals yet afaik, just 15% tyresondrive for 4 ?

isn't the F10 runflat, drive, largely a consequence of 19" rims and M (non-adaptive) suspension, too ? - maybe you can't get run-flats with a large profile, though.

There is nothing particularly wrong with the ride on an F10 with 19 inch wheels and M Sport suspension. It was fine enough with runflats that I put up with them for years, but without them it's gone from fine to excellent.

@Stu999 I'll will try get some Monday/Tuesday.

Never had a car with runflats. To me they seem fine? Although it's not ideal weather to really test a car properly, not sure of the characteristics I'm meant to look for? Are they meant to be more hard suspension wise and provide less feedback through corners?

I'm probably going to keep the runflats on the Giulia, The Potenza S001 so far have been good despite the poor reviews they get compared to more UHP tyre.

Essentially they are harsher riding because of the increased sidewall thickness. They are nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be, but they aren’t (and can’t be) as pliant.

I see never really looked into runflats :) Just done a quick Google search 'runflats Vs none runflats' and it's 99% people with M Sport suspension in BMWs. Seems to be more noticeable in cars with stiff suspension. I suppose it's all subjective, don't fancy the £700 to change to none runflats.

Wonder if I'm gonna regret leaving my truck on Bridgestone Turanza t005s for the winter - the older Turanza were terrible in the snow but these are quite different - the only video I can find suggests they cope fine in icy through to moderate snow conditions but don't really test them properly.

Last couple of winters have been so meh I'm not sure I can be bothered to swap them out.

Do you drive a proper truck in Colorado? You'll regret it.

Do you drive a Nissan Navara diesel in Croydon? Probably less in the regret department here.

Somewhere between the two.

I live in rural Somerset adjacent to the Blackmore Vale and due to work can be out in all weather any time of day or night.

You seem to be in the rare use-case for running all season tyres all the time. You might regret it but, AWD will help you out. :p

I've used all-season, all-terrain in the past and TBH has been overkill when things were icy/snowy and just cost me a bit in MPG but at the same time I managed to dodge the 2 worst days when we actually had snow as I was off work. On the other hand I've had situations where summer tyres were less than ideal but I have no idea how these t005s actually cope.

EDIT: These tyres have been surprisingly good in loose/wet mud so makes me wonder how well they will cope with snow and been very good for all the ****** rain and flooding we've had the last 18 months or so - so actually paid for themselves.

EDIT2: Not quite 18 months I've had them just feels like it LOL been a long year.

Got two new Conti premium contacts in August, one has a screw in it now. I hope it can be repaired but it’s very annoying!
yes, had one reparable, and another written off over past couple of years both on nearside - I now put newer tyres on offside.

Runflat option - their performance versus normal , autobild don't seem to have any tests

interestingly that they were better for acquaplaing on curve and lateral wet grip

So a set of Enkei wheels I bought recently have four mis-matched tyres.

One of them is an "Autogrip F107"

If you want a laugh have a read of some of the customer reviews... :p

It is also date stamped 2018 but the sidewall is so perished that it is almost impossible to make out the lettering!

Another of the four is a "FullRun Frun-One"

The others are alright.

The Pilot Super Sports are down to 4mm on my M140i, so I need to start thinking about what to replace them with. It's a shame that I can't get PS4S in the 18" sizes that my car has, so I've been looking a Super Sports again or maybe moving to F1A5 or whatever their latest are.

Down to 4mm? How much do they have in the first place
