**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Can you weigh them?

Typical, the digital bathroom scales I have has a dead battery and not a single spare 9v in the whole house... A mission for the weekend then.

In the meantime, the SportContact 5P in 235/35/R19 size is 9.6KG according to tyrereviews.co.uk. Now my camera backpack is 9.7KG and the CSC6 in the same size feels lighter than that.

What tyre would you guys recommend for a Mini Cooper (non S)? It's my sisters car and she doesn't want to spend megabucks or have a crappy performing tyre. All four corners will be changed together. What are Kumho and Toyo like, are they a good mid range choice? The size is 205/45/R17.

Thanks!

New battery is in, scales won't turn on!

Now this is an ideal reason to bust out the toolbox and unscrew /everything/

Edit*
He's dead Jim :(

A trip to Argos tomorrow it is then.

Getting AS3's tomorrow up front as the previous owner put Chinese tyres on (Landsail?) and they are god awful and worn down to close the legal limit. Should be good to see the difference! Following month, two more for the rear to replace the near new budget tyres the seller put on to "sweeten the deal". This car does not deserve this :(

Well the weather turned to pot the moment I finished putting the tyres in the car to take the lot to the garage to get them put on the car... and I completely sacked off Argos to get scales :o

I have twitteringed Continental UK to ask about the weight so will post back if they respond to customer queries :p

Anyway, the rim protection is a bit wider than the PSS, which is nice. Won't know how they perform in comparison until this weekend or next with 2 journeys planned totalling 500 miles or so.

Edit*

35 R19 = 9.58 Kg to 10.13 Kg dependent on exact tyre (1)

So actually no more or less in weight. Weird! they feel lighter for sure. Perhaps weight distribution difference?

Purchased some tyres from Black circles for the first time and had them fitted this morning using what they refer to as a "premier garage" and I can safely say I won't be using them again if that's the best rated garage in my area for fitting there tyres.
It Took them 45 minutes to fit 2 front tyres and when I got home one of them was nearly flat as the valve was letting air out! So I pumped it up and got it down to a local tyre place who fixed the valve and then noticed my new Hankook's had been fitted the wrong way round by these clowns :mad: so I paid them to sort them out for me.

I'd complain to black circles if that were me. As their agent and the receiver of your money they're liable. I'd be asking for the cost of fitting you paid and the cost to put right as a minimum.

So immediate thoughts on the CSC6, before even bedding in the steering feels a tad sharper and the ride quality is more comfortable for sure. The PSS were quite harsh on rough roads just like the PS2 but these have no harshness. In a way I did t mind the harshness as I could easily feel the road through my bones and of course through the wobbling chassis :p

But I also like the sharper steering. I am expecting them to get even better after the first couple hundred miles when I can properly give them a workout.

Just had CS5's fitted to the FSTi

Continental Sport Contact 5 XL (235/40 R18 95Y) all round, surprisingly Halfords Autocenter was the cheapest fitted price I could find (£108.99 ea)

235/40 is actually £20 cheaper per tyre than 225/45 (stock) and fit with no rubbing.

Had a wheel alignment done at the same time.

Initialy impressions, no harsher than the 225/50/17's on the winter wheels, but turn in is crisper and cornering is more stable. Noise if fantastic compared to the harsher tread on the Crossclimates.

Glad I kept the Crossclimates on the trip to Wales last week, as we got quite a bit of snow and average temps were closer to zero than I expected.

It's also a smaller tyre with the drop to a 40 profile so your speedo will be over-read a bit more with it showing 70mph you would be doing 66mph-ish which isn't a massive issue.

Halfords have the SC5 in my size (225/45/17 XL) a lot cheaper than I've seen elsewhere too - £79.99 a corner. Will be doing that next time I need a set if they're still that price - it's not a promo or anything as far as I'm aware
