**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Those ratings are nonsense, wouldn't pay any attention to them frankly

Well, unless they pluck those numbers out of thin air they are not completely nonsense. I believe there are many variables but other than trusting people who has tried them (in a Volvo) with both tyres it is difficult to compare the both.

On paper the CSC6 is 4dB louder than the PSS, yet on the road the CSC6 is distinctly quieter^ Just one example I guess.

Its a drive by noise reading and manufacturers can self certify. Its really not helpful for what you think it is.

How is it on everyday use? Does it grip from cold?

Absolutely fine in everyday use, they'll light up fairly easy in anything below about 5 celsius until warm.

You just have to drive with half a brain in cold/damp/wet situations but they certainly aren't going to spit you off the road with no warning and the breakaway when the rear end loses traction is very predictable and manageable

What have you used before? How do they perform in normal road conditions?
I am using PZero System and looking to get something else on the next change. I used Yokohama A008 many yrs ago and found them very grippy albeit a bit harder ride and noiser. Michelin Super Sports is another poss.

I've had Barum Bravuris (On when I bought the car), Uniroyal RainSport3s and the AD08R on the MX5

Forget about the Barum as they we're dangerous regarless of conditions and they we're binned even with 5mm tread left on them.

The Rainsports performed fairly well all round (Inspired a good amount of confidence especially in the wet) but did have fairly soft sidewall and they wore fairly quickly (5k from a set of rears).

The AD08R are absolutely fantastic in the dry, you'd have to be driving an MX5 like an absolute tool on the road to get them to break traction. Wet weather performance they're a little bit behind the rainsports but are by no means dangerous and still take a good bit of pushing before they'll break loose, but when they do go they're very progressive and predictable.

I was half and half whether to go for AD08's or not on my MX5 due to the many great reviews by people for my new set of wheels.

Ended up going for Yoko V105's due to the fact it's a daily driver and it still seemed a good all round performance tyre.

F1 ASY3 fitted today, I've covered about 80 miles in them and they're what I can only describe as "woolly" and a bit vague. Perhaps they need a few miles on them or my alignment is screwed (had a decent 4-wheel setup a couple of months ago)...:( had ASY2 fitted previously. Will check the tyre pressures.

Been looking at some new tyres for my Focus MK3 (17") and have narrowed it down to four tyres:

Continental Sport Contact 5 @ £109 each fitted (Already running these and been relatively happy with them)

Dunlop Sport BluResponse @ £110 each fitted

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance @ £101 fitted

Michelin Primacy 3 @ £113 fitted

I do a combination of motorway and local town driving and want something that's going to last. Basically should I stick with the SC5 or are any of the others worth a go?

Some good prices at Halfords autocenters it seems - worth a look if you're looking for new tyres. My size is 225/45/17 XL - they previously were listing the SC5 at £79.99 fitted (now up at £90ish)

The F1AS2s that came with my alloys are now on the wear indicators on the fronts, and one of the rears has an annoying slow puncture. Had another look today and they were listing the Uniroyal RS3 for £62 so I jumped on a set of 4 of those.

These arent shown as any sort of offer, there just seems to be one or 2 in amongst the overpriced Michelins and budget stuff that seem to be really good value. Blackcircles are listing the RS3 for £73 a corner in that size.

Just ordered two AS3 to be fitted on Thursday.

Fronts are on 1.6mm as I was looking to sell but I think I'll keep it now and againstick with the devil I know.

Hopefully they are as good as the as2 have been, maybe quieter?
