**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I decided today to switch back to 17" wheels with a narrower tyre, I dont need 18" alloys on my car...

So i placed an order with Camskill for some 205/50/17 Rainsport 3's @ £63 each.
never had an issue with these tyres, very good grip and they ignore water.

Hopefully i will see better MPG, and less road noise when i swap back.

Has anyone got any first-hand experience with Hankook tyres?

225/40R18 Front
255/35R18 Rear

Can get the fronts for £74 each and the rears for £115.

I had a set on my Yaris SR.

It's ok, I had the Ventus v12, was 205/45/17. I wouldn't get them again though because there are better tyres.

I've just worked out I've managed 30,000 miles on my front axel Conti SC5's, FWD car (mostly commuting mileage but some spirited driving).

I can't see SC6's in my size and have had no gripes with the SC5's as have been relatively happy, so much choise.

Another bonus is they are £20 cheaper now than 18 months ago :)

Black Circles:
Goody AS3 - £95.53 fitted
Conti SC5 - £97.78 fitted
Mich PS3 - £109.99 fitted

Will rotate with my rear axel ditchfinder tyres (supplied with car) in 9 months time and new fronts again. Still can't justify binning them as tread depth is more than ample.

Car is in for an MOT in the next few days and I know it will need at least two new tyres

Any thoughts or suggestions ?

Cheers guys

CSC5's are only slightly more than any of those suggestions @ £123.15 each from BC and will be the top recommendation from most here. (MPSS are also available in that size @ £147.82 each - but depends what car it is and what you use it for, as to whether the cost is worth it)

Cheers - its a 2012 3.0 TDI A5 - mostly motorway commute / work related runs (400 miles a week or so average), dads taxi and some back-road shenanigans

Booked in for an MOT on Saturday so will see what they suggest and take a look at the CSC5s

Cheers :)

EDIT : Its booked in Kwick Fit and they are showing £118.99 fitted for the CSC5s will see how many I need, but suspecting 4 :/

Thats what tyres cost. If you can afford the expensive cars that need the expensive tyres, chances are you can afford the expensive tyres.

£63 for a tyre is not expensive at all, I dont know why you'd be "annoyed" at that

Just annoyed i had to spend £260 when i don't really have it.
No matter though as i have sold my 18" alloys which paid for the tyres on the 17"'s

If you cant afford £260 for a full set of tyres then you might want to question your choice of transportation.

I just put exactly the same set of tyres on my cheaper car, for exactly the same price and didn't think twice about it.

Its not that i cant afford it! Its that i could have used that money towards something nice... like some nice jewelry for the wife :P

Instead its poured into the car -.- Bloody cars.

Oh and if i was really that annoyed i wouldn't have bought rainsports... i would have bought some cheap LINGLONG tyre for £30 a tyre and be done with it

Just in fuel you can easily do £1500+ a year depending on how much you drive, then tax and insurance and you're at £2000 easily just for a year. Cars cost money.

I'm considering switching from 16 inch wheels on my jetta to 18 inch wheels. I'm currently on Rainsport 3's all round, and was considering them for the 18's as they'd only be £282 fitted. But I could get the wheels with tyres package with Goodyear F1 AS2 or AS3 for about an extra £75-£150 (prices seem to change daily). Would the Goodyears be worth the extra money.
