“This is our proposal for what the next generation of gaming is going to be,” Rein said as the demo began.

high res screenshots from neogaf: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=26259798&postcount=153

what do you guys think? it was actually rendered in real time by 3x gtx 580. is this what our games could look like if they weren't held back by consoles?

Looks like a console port anyway imo, i've never really been a fan of UT:3 and GoW's style of visuals but i those screenshots don't do it much justice for me.

The screenshots just look rather dull, like the Crysis 2 shots i've seen in the HD Screenshot thread, a video demonstration would possibly be better.

Maybe someone smeared vaseline on your monitor but those screens look a lot better than any Crysis screen. Way more atmospheric and has been mentioned, very Blade Runner.

I imagine a futuristic cityscape type FPS gaming being made with this, maybe Fifth Element/Blade Runner game conversions :D

I like seeing videos over screenshots, and i have my reasons.

Like i said, i personally don't think the screenshots do the engine justice, i imagine it would be a lot better with a video demonstration as screenshots tend to reduce the quality of a game, which is my reason for referring to the example of Crysis 2 [there are other examples as well].

If it turns out to be the way i imagined it in a video demonstration, then by all it means it will be a brilliant engine that could be used to re-create Blade Runner.

Like the Cysis 2 demo before it was released?

Again bullshots, they are simply marketed to impress before it's actually released.

Maybe in Crytek's case...

The article (if you read it) states that this:

1: Was a behind closed doors event
2: Was a realtime demo and staffers detached the camera and showed individual aspects of the technology (like those ATI/nVidia demos you can download and play with)
3: Was rendered on current hardware
4: Will NOT run on current gen consoles
5: Is what the industry SHOULD be working towards
6: Is not a game or anything, it is a technology demo showing what's available right now and in real time

In essence while I dislike Epic's previous shens, I have to say this looks like they're attempting to set a graphical technology standard with this and rightly so, it looks excellent, it is real time and not just a static showcase buffed up for presentation like Crysis has always been and actually means something for the future of gaming cross platform.

Crysis 2 should ve been like this,

fail Crytek is fail.

so Mass effect 3 and next Batman games will look like this ?

I've always loved the neon look of the later Unreal engines, so this looks good to me. Just wish there were a load of games actually using this tech available right now. But I bet we won't see it for another 5 or so years, until Sony and MS get off their backsides and produce consoles with half-decent, modern hardware.

PC can do that now easily......but it seems no-one wants to spend the money in doing so if its PC exclusive because of the tech required. The other factor is budgets are already high creating more render complexity will increase this even more so few games apart from sequels will ever be able to afford to use this in the future anyway.

This is a fraction of how much consoles are holding back the PC!!

This isn't a demo, and they're not trying to market anything. It's a tech showcase. Read the actual article, and you'll find that these screengrabs are *not* "bullshots".

Damn them screenies are nice. Makes me think bladerunner with em. Oh it would be nice if that engine was used for a proper bladerunner adventure game like the old one.
