Unreal Engine 3 evolution tech demo (gtx 580 tri sli)

This thread seems to be full of the technically inept. What ever you think of the art style, those screen shots are technically spectacular and that's the entire point of them.

When we actually see this kinda stuff in a game (hopefully with better art direction, I can't stand the poor use of specular and over done depth maps) I might get a bit excited but I see this kinda tech every day in proof of concept/testing/pre-rendered stuff but its always much lower quality in actual released products.

Which is why I said it's technically impressive with regards to certain tricks they can use but the Unreal engine just isn't pretty at all.

I dont think we'll see anything like this in game on PC till the next gen consoles come out... shame. Nice demo, but cliché.

Im starting to get frustrated with this forum now... seriously, how can people say it "looks like a console port"? when its only a tech demo? theres a high chance that it wont even be released as a game.

Who cares if it looks like Bioshock? thats not the point of the screenshots, ITS A TECH DEMO, showing off the new features of their improved UE3.

some people on here just jump on the "buzzword" bandwagon and try to sound intelligent, but end up sounding like idiots.

The only drawback I can see regarding the quailty of them graphics, is that the development time is already too long to make a game. Dev time will constantly be increased with better graphics and costing more (hense why some game devs are going down the motion controller route)

It's a gorgeous tech demo; the subsurface scattering works really well on the character shots; add that to the high res textures and dynamic soft shadows and the result is unquestionably good. Also the post-processing effects look really slick - though it is true they lend themselves more to cutscenes than gameplay.

This thread seems to be full of the technically inept.
+1

Those who are complaining that it looks like Bioshock quite clearly don't understand 3D concepts at all; there is a lot between this tech demo and current games running on Unreal Engine 3. It should also be noted that Epic Games are not calling this Unreal Engine 4 - there is a significant clue there.

Stunning stuff imo.

I find it hilarious that people in this sub forum moan so much about things being downscaled due to consoles then, when they're offered what they want (something with some real technological clout), they just say 'meh'.

Totally and utterly impossible to please.

Some are missing the point
So what if it take 3 x 580 to run right now , if the new unreal engine was ready to sell by end of year, then game development time would be another 2 years (for a new IP Triple A Title)to be made at which point it would run on a single 880 or whatever card would be

Personally I couldn't care less about graphical acheivements, it's the gameplay that is suffering as of late.

Unless you're easily pleased.

Welcome to OcUK PC Games. No short supply of arm chair specialist/"lolexperts" with no clue here. ;)

cryengine2 can already do stuff like bokeh dof and subsurface scattering, but you're right...current consoles need to fark off and quick sharp.

So what if it take 3 x 580 to run right now

I doubt it does. They probably just did that to get it as smooth as possible for the demonstration.
