Seen those and as expected very poor. It looks like it will be the slowest of the new gen GPU’s and at 11watt power drain those are some dreadful scores. The only reason they scored so well is the used a totally unacceptable 11 watt. Which is practically cheating in the mobile world.

As for the demo I don’t see anything amazing. It’s a simple scripted screen with few objects. Why is anyone getting excited about it?

Tegra K1 is pretty much going to fail as it runs far too hot, drains far too much power and isn’t that fast compared to other next gen chips.

11W was the full jetson TK1 board and it didn't even take PSU inefficiencies into account. Not to mention that the TK1 board runs different sort of memory that's not optimized for mobile. And all that was in extremely heavy gpgpu load, which no one does on mobile devices.

SoC power while gaming is around 4W for K1. The fact that it completely destroys every other SoC GPU wise in a really small case (mipad has the same form factor as the ipad mini retina) clearly shows you that it can't possibly have bad power draw. It would throttle in a couple of seconds if it did.

But here they are, beating apple, qualcomm and AMD SoCs with similar TDP, (and AMD and qualcomm ref tablets in bigger cases) by around 50% or more in GPU performance.

Just imagine what happens once they bolt some maxwell SMMs and their denver core to Erista.

In that case we need more data then but I am not convinced due to the bad battery life. Didn't the tablet have a bigger battery and half the life span of an Ipad which hints to me a massive power draw. K1 has a 5 hour life.

As for throttling badly I would like to see some evidence K1 doesn’t throttle. Tegra has got a long history it needs to disprove. All the other Tegra chips throttle badly after 2 or 3 benchmark runs or in games.

K1 beating apple, qualcomm well those are 1 year old GPU’s. We are almost at the start of a new gen. K1 shouldn’t be compared against last generation. It should be compared against the upcoming generation that it will compete against. Spec wise K1 is a fair bit behind Apple new GPU. I see no reason why K1 wouldn’t be one of if not the slowest of the new GPU’s. More so when its benchmark scores are so bad for a next gen GPU.

I would imagine by the time they did that the others will have real time ray tracing in Mobiles and Tegra will be miles behind in graphics.

EDIT: it’s even worse if you compare K1 to the last generation but running metal (PowerVR chips). If the new gen beats K1 in specs, beats K1 in raw speed and is double to triple the speed due to metal how can we call K1 anything but slow?
