Unreal Engine 4, exclusively to target consoles

ITT bitter PC fanboy tears

I've had more fun on my consoles than I ever had on my PC. With WoW being the exception. People will just have to accept that their precious PC platform isn't the top dog anymore (and hasn't been for a long time, it started going downhill after HL2's release). You can blame piracy, ridiculous hardware prices, unease of use and general developer attitudes for that.

All of the top PC games are now on consoles; even Crysis is jumping ship. You can go 'orange box orange box orange box' (with a pinch of CoD4 if you like) all day till you go blue, but it's also on two consoles, and sold far more on them. Epic's UE4 engine now focusing on consoles, what a surprise!

It's a pity really - it only cements some PC gamers' elitist attitudes, and it really shows. You're not elitist, you're just in a minority that feels threatened. :p (one guy went 'cliff should be shot!' that made me LOL)

Can't stand FPS games on consoles, using the thumbstick to aim is awful.
I agree :(

I think you can get keyboard + mouse adapters for some consoles tho. Altho if you do that a keyboard and mouse is about 10x more useful and usable in comparison to a gamepad so I guess would be a bit unfair for online gaming lol :)

Such a shame that so many developers are going to consoles. I can sort of see how consoles could be the way forward, but pc's are a bit more flexible in terms of hardware upgrades.

I actually found myself looking at xbox360 prices the other day tho

Well, actually no, it isn't the exception is it? you just communicated in the form of nonsense that you do indeed have more fun on your PC.

I would love to see your references to the facts and figures that show that after Half Life 2's release the PC as a platform started to go downhill. Again, you're communicating via the medium of nonsense.

I can tell you that the battle of consoles existed waaay before even the original Half Life came into fruition, and both platforms have always endured a very competitive state of play, both have had their flagship titles of the moment and both have endured all the bad games that came inbetween.

We aren't elitist without reason, it is a good thing that Epic have decided to stick to consoles, because they have adopted the common console developer model of business that doesn't apply to PCs.

Which is to make a rough, throw away title to get a quick 1,000,000 sales, draw a line under it and move onto your next throw away title. Good luck to Epic, im sure this will work out very well for them.

But lets not forget why Epic are causing a bit stink over its disdain for PCs... it is because they know deep down the real gamers, the credible ones, are PC gamers... when they realised that they don't know how to make good games anymore it cut them deep and the only thing they could see to do was to lash out.

Sorry, I think you miss understood my position. My views on CliffyB have absolutely nothing to do with my views on Epic targeting their engine for consoles. It is clear that the guy is a complete moron, even Epic's boss has stated that the guy is "an idiot", prolly wanting to vent more, but unable to as he is obviously good at what he does.

I understand perfectly why Epic would want to target their engine to consoles, they want to make money, that's fair enough, and I don't think less of them for it (my views on CliffyB were solid far before this announcement, not that he is an engine architect anyway iirc, so why would my views on him be in light of the current announcement of UE4?).

Unfortunately it is obvious that you are just baiting this thread as you've offered nothing constructive as to how PC gaming could be better.

Heres a video of "CliffyB" making an announcement at GDC, tell me you can watch that video without even the slightest thought of "what a fool". I think eminem established that coming on stage with a chainsaw wasn't cool:

Anyway, this is hugely off topic. Again, my views on CliffyB don't reflect my views on epic. That is all.

You had a convincing sounding rebuttal up to that point. You've made a lot of noise only to come to that. 'Real gamers' 'credible gamers' 'pc gamers ONLY '

Unfortunately, you can't accuse me of being in the realm of nonsense when you yourself are so ingrained in such a belief. I've yet to see reasons why you're the 'real, credible gamer' just because it's on PC, a far less successful and popular format.

It's just elistism and stuck-up snobbishness, pure and simple. Well done for proving exactly what I said, especially in such a strong attempt to refute it. It's delicious.

I have to admit that PC Gaming does seem to be going downhill. I've never owned a console, I've always played on a PC ever since I was 10. It just really seems to have slowed up, releases are generally slow, the time period between exceptional games is very slow, and money wise, the consoles can do pretty much exactly the same for far less.

It's disappointing that Epic plan to make this move but I suppose it isn't unexpected and its probably the best thing for them financially.

I have been seriously considering getting a 360 purely because there is nothing on the PC right now. I've played all the good games with the exception of Crysis which I refuse to play until hardware is available twhere I can run at max with smooth fps which will undoubtedly cost a bomb.

*shrug*

Epic can take their business where they like (I have a PS3) but hell will freeze over before I buy an FPS for a console. My PS3 does sports games, racing games, and the odd 3rd person game. My PC does the FPS games, strategy games, and most importantly, my uni work, internet, messenger, etc.

Sounds like their just in it for the money, UT3 is just a betterlooking inferior re-hash. Nice to see Id Software working on a different game.

Why do I like my pc?

Because a PC game will on average be £20 cheaper than it's PS3 counterpart, and £10 cheaper than it's Xbox counterpart.

people are making more FPS games for consoles as they are selling more on them....

what they dont realise is that the reason they arent selling on PC is because they all look, feel, and are bad console ports....

If there just going to churn out gamepad based games for PCs that suck, then Ill gladly let them go... leave it to people like Valve who build a PC FPS designed for PCs....

Shame tho, UT and UT2004 were great fun!

Does this mean we'll eventually be reduced to simulator games and graphics demonstrations? I'de still like to think PC gaming will have a future aslong as we have more powerfull machines that can render better looking things, but it does look a bit bleak :|

PC games will always have a future, but you must accept that it's not the premier platform for games anymore, the financial viability and returns from PC games are weak compared to investment in the console gaming industry. That's just the way it is. It's cold, hard and brutal business.

Sounds like their just in it for the money,

Why else do companys exist?

They arnt making games just to please us.

They just make the games to please us so we buy them and they get the cash.

Welcome to the real world ;)

You make that sound new, it's been that way since I first got into gaming in about 1988/1989 and that's only what I personally remember. It's probably been that way since gaming was invented.

Honestly, are you only in this thread to bait PC gamers by calling them names and other nonsense?

Well, not too bothered here. Having been a PC gamer all my life, I purchased a 360 a couple months ago and am loving it.

I tried going back to my PC and found it boring. The only games of interest on it to me now are playable on 2 year old cards (or older)

I am even getting used to shooters on the console. Been playing The Darkness and its great. Sure, aiming with the thumbstick is not quite as easy as with a mouse (requires more skill :D), but with practice one gets better.

The PC is not for "true" gamers - why do some people adopt this holier than though attitude where somehow PC gamers are superior in some way to console gamers?

Consoles are just as good and, quite frankly, far less hassle. I know where the majority of my time will be spent and it won't be on PC.

And if people such as epic will be concetrating more on consoles, then fine by me :)
