Unreal Engine 4, exclusively to target consoles

I love it when people go on about the "elitist, holier-than-thou attitude" of PC gamers but then decide to fill the entire content of their post with rubbish about how they prefer consoles or whatever and how they say it's fine by them if developers spend more time on their pet platforms. Selfish much?

Get over yourselves hypocrites, we should be trying to make every platform equally great.

Not directed specifically at you ffallic, but you're obviously one of the people I mean.
P.S. I play games on the rig in my sig and a 360 Elite, love them both without childish bias.

Look, I still think the PC is a great gaming platform. And sure, in a perfect world, all platforms would get the same treatment.

I did not say consoles were better. I said they were just as good. However I came across, I am not biased where PC vs console is concerned.

What I was having a go at was the people dismiss consoles outright as being inferior and for tards.

It looked to me like you were saying that you started playing console games and now you think PC gaming is boring, plus more hassle, plus only games that run on two year-old hardware interest you.

Maybe I should learn to read because, to me, that looks like someone saying consoles are better and that your whole post basically said "console gaming is great and I'm glad that companies like Epic are so willing to bend over backwards for me, oh and PC gamers are stuck up themselves" which is oh so ironic.

Where did anyone in this thread dismiss console gaming as being "for tards" anyway?

How about we grow up and support all platforms equally eh? Freedom of choice is good for the consumer.

I'm mainly talking about KNIVES as well with his idiotic "fanboy tears" comments.

Perhaps I could have worded things a little better...

Though when I said I was not bothered, I meant it, as I am never going to be a PC gamer exclusively again. The only people who will lose out or be bothered by something being platform exclusive are those that religiously stick to one platform - which is kind of a shame in a way as not everyone can afford using more than one.

Epic can have their consoles if thats what they want. They'll leave room for a more innovative company to fill their PC shoes.

They've been slipping since the glory days of UT99 anyway.

By the way, any hardcore gamer worth their salt plays multiplatform. PC just happens to be good at certain things.

you raise a good point. If your a hardcore gamer who can afford a £2k rig, then you definately can afford a 360 and/or PS3.

My gripe is that some develiopers dont make games for PCs, they make games for consoles and the port them to PCs, and no matter how hard they try, a game designed to be played on a pad never plays well wil a kb and mouse.

I hate Halo. Not so much because of the game, because I just never played it much and never really enjoyed it, but didnt hate playing it. I hate halo because of what it did to the FPS game industry. Halo was a MASSIVE success as it was quite clearly aimed at console gamers and a console style of playing FPS games. The success of Halo however sparked other game designers to go "hey, I know, lets make our game halo-ish and it will be really successfull!" - cue UT2k4, Unreal Championship, etc etc. 'heavy' feeling, slower gameplaying, vehicle including, waiting to spawn death match games that look and feel like Halo. The glory days of brain ache after a hardcore session of Quake 3 or UT are gone, games have become multi platform, and unfortunately this means that PC FPS games have become more like console ones, rather than the other way around.

My faith still lives on with Valve however. I hope the console owners of the orange box hate and and winge and moan to ensure Valve keep making FPS games designed to be played on a kb and mouse sat at a desk with an empty wallet and a watercooled graphics card!

hm, always someone who starts the whole 'hardcore gamer' thing, kind of makes me cringe, theres a few sad acts at uni who go on about there beloved ps3s and 360s and how theres is better than the other.. but then they constantly upgrade pcs ontop of that, i wish i had that kind of money... oh wait, i spend mine having a life.

I don't really care what Epic do, I'm not upgrading my PC for a good while yet anyway, I bought my 8800 series mainly for the purpose of Crysis, what a huge ****ing mistake that was!

Either way I have all three consoles, a fairly good PC so I'm sorted, unless some uber good PC exclusives start coming out then I won't be upgrading, Episode 3 of Half-Life will run fine on current hardware so that's no problem at all.

im staying out of this argument but i will say this: to say the pc isnt the premier gaming platform now is short-sighted - it NEVER was. to bait pc gamers in the way KNiVES did in this thread, in a pc gaming forum, is stupid, and to think this will spell the end to pc gaming....is utter moronic.

make no mistake this wont make a blind bit of difference to pc gaming. infact, i bet it would only strengthen it.

Well saying it would strengthen the PC gaming industry when a developer LEAVES is quite optomistic, though i hope you're right. Maybe we'll just see a purification of games instead. Console games for consoles, PC games for pc's. Like someone above rightly pointed out with regards to Halo and it's effect on other similar games.

Like water off my back mate. I don't have to defend squat, because I'm just as much a white-knight multiplatform crusader as you are. It's funny to see such a heated debate - for all the people trying to play down my remarks, they sure are kicking up a fair bit of ruckus. ;)

but then they constantly upgrade pcs ontop of that, i wish i had that kind of money... oh wait, i spend mine having a life.

LOL, sweeping generalization much?

im sorry but how does the current system suite everyone? when certain companys sell exclusive rights etc to certain consoles meaning in effect you need to dish out so much more money if you want to play all the games etc.

Sweeping generalisation much? not really, Xbox + wii+ps3 + decent pc and decent library of games for each.. how much money is that? im fairly sure its quite a lot. Sweeping generalisation being that 'hardcore gamers' are retarded losers, they are no longer as socially retarded as once was(thanks to online multiplayer) but the 'hardcore' are still complete and utter plebs.

Good riddance i say.

They've realised that PC gamers generally look for new & exciting gameplay ideas and technology in their games, and they couldn't keep up or come up with the ideas to appeal to said gamers and just churned out some average looking/playing tosh BUT NOW WITH HOVERBOARDS ZOMG WICKD!

So they've gone crying to the consoles where they can relax because the games don't advance at the same rate.

You still said that those with all platforms and regularly update their PCs have no lives. You ever think that a lot of people out there actually have the money to afford a good lifestyle? It's nice that you throw out insults and derogatory comments to just about anyone with a PC and some consoles, myself included.

Yeah, I bought some memory and a nice shiny new graphics card while there was a minor draught for my consoles, I must be a socially retarded, complete and utter pleb. You some internet tough guy or something?

I accept that theres obviouly a handful who can afford it all, along with lots of other flashy things, the thing is theres a hell of a lot of people who go without everything else, because they funnel everything into there gaming hardware.
Yea an internet tough guy, thats the one, no wait, maybes im an e-chav.

Or maybe its just that i slated 'hardcore gamers' and that you cant actually read? Hardcore gamers generally speaking are muppets, people who own all platforms and constantly upgrade PCs are not by definition hardcore gamers, they could just like their toys and buy everything they see, because they can, the thing is they can still afford to do everything else normal people do, whereas hardcore gamer is too busy playing with his best friends from all over the world on his different consoles, and when said gamer goes to bed he dreams of being a pro.

Well ive not really rated any of the unreal games much, but besides that what do EPIC have to offer? of they want to leave let them lol, it'll only mean other developers will be given a chance to fill their shoes

Alright, that's a better distinction, I'll lay off for now. :p

console gamers have low standards

console tardish

[if you want to see a truly bad game] buy a console

the real gamers, the credible ones, are PC gamers.

So they've gone crying to the consoles where they can relax because the games don't advance at the same rate.

all engines/console games are built on pc therefore pc > consoles

Just.......LOL. Looks like KNiVES' PC fanboy comment was spot-on to me :D
